Of course, it made perfect sense to refuse the Signing. It's what we don't know that may end up hurting us most.
Yes, I Do understand that some are still admitting "outsiders" into their homes (and notaries accept the invite from the grinning "Cheshire cat") BUT there really are Other ways to "conduct a closing." Time to really think outside the box Or stay inside until this blows over. I think the one-and-young signer is likely to be the best adapter; a sole signer will sign Anywhere!
But a well-organized household team can make it work too, without putting anyone inside their home at risk.
Any TC has legal counsel at the helm. I wonder what they would say if an SS client put their (the TC) BE-hinds in bubbling hot water by not bringing this to notary's attention beforehand? A couple of memorable things my TC client's acting counsel told me a few weeks ago:
She does not meet clients (and yes, she has lost a few); and had this communication for business-as-usual folks during a Pandemic, "Even if I wanted to be in the Same room with you - which I do NOT..." She had me cracking up there. Her and lawyer husband work from home.
The 2nd thing she said, "I will never knowingly put you in a unsafe situation." So, she was giving me leave to tell the signer who was calling me direct instead of his AIF to Leave Me Be (polite for . . .)! We were all waiting for him to report back with virus test results.
(Over the weekend I was turned away from a Wawa - they have good hot chocolate but I was hungry for chicken chili!
