I think it's totally legitimate for a signer to ask us to prove we are who we say we are, even it seems overkill given all the pre-appointment work done to confirm they know whose coming to their house and why on a process THEY initiated. But once in a while, a signer asks to see my ID when I arrive. No problem, I'm willing to pull out my Cali DL and show them my awful picture taken on a rainy day a few years ago. But I've never then had a client say to me, "May I make a copy of your ID?"
It was so bizarre, I didn't know what to say. My initial reaction, and the one I went with, was no, you cannot, but I'll happily leave you my business card. Anyone else gotten this request or have an opinion? Does a signer have rights to make this request in your opinion? |
