Colorado expects wild fires in the mountains. What we never expected was the fast moving 6,000+ acre fire inferno last New Years Eve and New Years Day that took out complete neighborhoods blowing embers from house to house, traveling more than 25 miles, jumping from one side of the turnpike to the other. The fire got to within 5 miles of our house. Nine months later not ONE house has been rebuilt because of new building codes that will add up to $100,000 to the price of the rebuild. Only 5 building permits have been issued. People are fighting insurance companies who had to leave with only their family, pets and the clothes on their backs. Insurance now wants photographs of everything lost and paperwork of purchases. Some people who were at work never even got to their house before it was gone. Next comes to lack of building supplies and even construction contractors. As for CASH purchases, the average person doesn’t have a million dollars+ just lying around.
In whatever crisis, houses may be built back stronger, but saying this is good news to someone that has lost everything, isn’t encouraging to someone who has lost everything, nor giving a notary false hope that biz will be rebounding from man made or natural disasters.
