While I believe the article was a bit of an over-dramatization, I don't understand the reason lenders have shunned buydowns since the meltdown. I could speculate between the GSE's acceptance criteria (they are acceptable), MBS investor's concerns of this type of security, etc., but it would be just that, speculation.

It's interesting that the 2nd largest lender, Rocket Mortgage, just 3 weeks ago introduced their "Inflation Buster" 1-0 Buydown. Big Wow!
