Hi Jill,
Boy this was a great message to find. I moved to the DFW area a little over a year ago and Texas is the 3rd state I will have been a commissioned notary in. They are very different and this "Cash Out" policy of having to be done in an Attorney's office or Title Company is crazy! The fee is usually higher to cover the rental of office space, or the contracting company will add your cost to your fee. Unfortunately, I just don't take "Cash outs". I spent hours after accepting my first and most of the Title offices won't allow you to use their office unless your job is with their firm. And the attorneys were either booked for the time needed or asked too much. I don't want to have to front the fee and wait for the reimbursement because unlike most companies in my 21 yr career, Texas signing services pay 60 days out! There's also the "Witness" signings. I have never seen this before, but here if a witness is needed, they ask the Notary to bring one. Some of the local notaries have a list of people that they pay $25 to come for the witnessing and then leave. That again is something I just ignore and take the jobs that give me less problems. After years of doing signings I try to work for quality companies that pay properly and don't run me around like their monkey. So basically if you choose to do "Cash outs" you have sit and call throughout your working area and find your designated offices that will work with you. Those that would work with me were a lesser fee of $75-85.
