Re: notary self employment tax
Posted by NJordan/IA of IA on 4/5/24 12:22pm Msg #648177
Last year (2022 taxes), Turbotax let me deduct self employment income, but the IRS didn't allow it, so it took forever for my tax refund to be "corrected" and sent to me. I called the IRS and they said in order to claim the self employment credit, I need to file an amended return which would trigger an IRS audit. No thanks. My thought was that Iowa doesn't set an amount a notary can charge, so maybe the IRS thought it wasn't allowable? I didn't claim it in this year's (2023) tax return either. I don't feel like fighting with the IRS.
