I have a 15 year old gaming desktop, a 8 year old desktop, a 6 year old cheap laptop, a 2 year old laptop and and Android pad and phones. All are fine. It's more a matter if it boots up too slow for you or the programs you use.
It's not really the computer, text is nothing to anything newer than 20 years old. You can always add some cheap Ram if it's a desktop or laptop that's dogging, but put your money into a half decent printer - it does the most work.
