Best I ever got was a big bag with lemons from the borrowers' trees in the back yard. The wife was cute. She said "No one gets out alive without a bag of lemons!" They were ripe and juicy, too! (I had some fun experimenting with recipes for a few weeks!)
It's amazing how nice some people can be. On the other hand, one of the apparently wealthiest people I ever did a loan with barely let me in the front door, during a driving rain. I'm standing there balancing an umbrella, a big stack of papers and my notary case, and he wants to sign at the door! Needless to say, I wasn't having that - and his wife had to sign a few docs, too. (I did leave my umbrella and rather nice raincoat - I showed up looking my best professional self - near the front door.) Guess he was afraid I was going to drip all over everything or stake out his home and expensive possessions. Sheesh! After that greeting, I didn't even look around, just focused on business as politely as I could manage and got out quickly. Takes all kinds, doesn't it?! (BTW, he wasn't a Californian. This mega house was their second home.)
