I got a call yesterday from JMT, just after 4 in the afternoon. First call, can you do a signing in San Bernardino at 6 p.m.. I responded with yes but not at the 50 dollar fee you generally offer. I quoted my fee, it's 20 miles down the mountain and that's not even knowing the exact address yet. I quoted my fee, the caller said I will speak with my co worker(translation call around for another notary) and if we can get this approved, I will call back.
Phone rings a bit later, they want to raise the fee but not to meet my request. I stand my ground, she now approves the fee and automatically adds another 25 dollars because she now says it's edocs. She then also adds it's not in San Bernardino but in Apple Valley. I said well I can't accept the latest fee you offered for that area. I said I can recommend a notary in that area. She says I have a list for that area, she says this in a testy tone.
Phone rings about an hour later, signing was supposed to be at 6 or 6:30 I think. I didn't even bother to answer the call. They must be having trouble getting a notary.
Obviously in their efforts to pay the notary the least amount of money and they earn the greatest cut. They may have had difficulty finding a notary, never mind the bad weather conditions currently in the area.
JMT pays timely(extremely low fees) docs generally sent to borrower, small package and most often already sent to borrower, easy package, few notarizations in the package. I will do these when time permits and within miles of my home. Otherwise, no thanks. They also have their person call the same day, a reminder message about the signing scheduled for that day. This too is annoying, for the organized person.
JMT office staff seems to dislike the fact they need to hire notaries at all. They have a process to call in, press one to accept the order, for me all a waste of time but ok I'll do as you request.
This is a company that I would never bend over backwards for because they seem to be lacking in a general respect for the notary and simple kindness to another human being, period. I always resent a company being greedy and this seems to be true of JMT.
I, as the notary also need to work in a cost effective manner. When and if I accept an order in Apple Valley, I have to be able to get out the backside of the mountain and we currently have snow. I have to be certain there is no flooding in the valley below as I take the back way to get to Apple Valley. My drive will be at least 40 miles one way and that's only if I can get through and there are no road closures, now for this, JMT wants to pay me 50 dollars. They then respond with "well we have no fax backs, no printing, yadda yadda yadda" I won't even make 50 dollars from this deal. I would be foolish to operate my business this way. |
