The last several years, I rarely even got calls from low-ballers - it seemed that eventually they'd taken me off their lists after I repeatedly declined their offers. The past couple of months though, I've had a resurgence of phone calls from some of the more reknown ones. I have one guy who calls a couple times a week - nice enough, but this poor guy's gone into Robot Mode and I seriously don't think he KNOWS he's calling me over & over & over. I don't even bother anymore to say much except "Sorry, can't." Deaf ears.
This is the pattern that's emerged. The calls aren't as angry & confrontational as I remember them being before - these people are going into drone-mode. The kind of voice & inflection you might adapt if you were making the same calls over and over and over and ...over again, and getting the same responses.
Anyway ...I have to wonder what this means? Is it that those around me who were taking these 'pay-to-work' fees are finally wising up? Did they go get a job that actually puts money in their hand? Are they owed so many way-past-due invoices that the light-bulbs have begun to glow?
It's a noticable change, and it means SOMETHING - not sure what. I haven't changed where I'm listed, so I don't think I'm on a new data-base. One might take it as a bit of evidence that holding onto your value has an actual effect, eventually. |
