I am also a CPA and I find it unreasonable that either the ss or notaries don't keep good accounting records. The IRS and state taxing agencies are going after anyone who cannot support their mileage deductions, home office expense, mortage interest related to business deductions, and depreciation. I know that I charge more for tax returns when I have to go through a shoe box (about $60 per hour for bookkeeping, in addition to tax preparation fees). So, if we notaries want to reduce our taxes, keep good records so a good tax preparer can have you pay "the least legal tax." |
