That's one way to claim asylum. The other legal way is to show up at a border crossing and ask for it. You've obviously quoted from official documents that most immigrants would probably have no clue existed.
US and international law say that asylum seekers can appear at the border and request asylum. That doesn't mean they'll get it - most here are turned away. And the fact that keeps getting lost in this discussion is that statistics show that MOST undocumenteds are visa overstays - they came here legally and just never left. |
