"Just one more freedom to give up. Our right to privacy. The left is trying to take us to full blown socialism"
Under laws passed by a Republican administration, all of your phone calls have been monitored by the NSA for the past 18 years. Where's your outrage about that violation of your privacy?
This has nothing to do with socialism, communism, liberalism, or any other "ism" you might like to name. The NY bill does not release all NY residents' tax returns to Congress - it specifies which Congressional committees can request information about specific individuals. That's much like what 26 USC 6103 (as I posted above) has done for the past 100 years. That law was passed as a reaction to the Teapot Dome scandal and the corrupt administration of President Harding.
The difference is that Trump and his loyalists can ignore the federal laws (which they seem more and more willing to do), but they can't ignore state laws - which is why states are starting to take the matter into their own hands. When you have a President who thinks that the laws don't apply to him, there has to be another way to assert the checks and balances the Constitution provides for. Otherwise, let's just burn the Constitution and all our rights, and make him President for life.
