What actually happened was that a number of Western organizations wanted that prosecutor fired because he wasn't doing enough to fight corruption. Biden got involved to try to force Ukraine to fire him and hire someone who would do more to root out corruption, which is what they did. At the time, the company that Biden's son worked for was not under investigation - the investigation had gone dormant Biden was arguing for a prosecutor that would do a better job for Ukraine - not trying to protect his son.
The Ukrainians have said that neither Biden nor his son broke any laws or did anything wrong, and the whole thing was debunked months ago. Trump's former DHS advisor, Tom Bossert, went on record yesterday saying he told Trump several times that the story wasn't true, but Rudy was on it like a dog on a bone. It's just another conspiracy theory.
