I agree with your idea - you have to take responsibility for your own actions (or inactions, in this case).
The vaccine is readily available, and the scientific evidence tells us that it works - not perfectly, but it has an efficacy of roughly 95%. Current data shows that over 95% of the people currently being infected by, hospitalized by, and dying due to Covid-19 are unvaccinated. Are people who have been vaccinated still being infected? Yes, but they're not the ones being hospitalized and dying - in most cases, the symptoms are mild or non-existent.
I don't know how large the dots have to be drawn before the vaccine deniers can connect them.
I personally have a couple of close family members who absolutely refuse to be vaccinated or wear a mask to protect themselves. Nothing I can say will convince them otherwise, and I've given up trying for fear of alienating them completely. We all live in a part of TX where the Delta variant is spreading rapidly, hospitalization rates are climbing, and deaths are increasing. My worst fear right now is getting that phone call saying that one or both of them have been hospitalized - and there's nothing I can do to prevent that. |
