Re: This was actually a trick question

We are not talking about not paying it, we are talking about not passing any more bills that make debt in the future. Then guess what? Next year, we actually may have the balance going down instead of up as things get paid off.

I am not for holding this hostage, it will be paid as it always has been. The same stink smells every time even because they kick the can down the road, yet make no attempts to reduce it.
The Republicans want to hold out as long as possible to wake up the Democrats and will wait until the last minute, but it always gets passed and always gets paid at some point.

Mandated services, lol okay... let's start by stopping all foreign aid for 1 year.
In 2020, the US spent $51.1 billion in foreign aid, which makes up 1% of the federal budget. Military aid accounted for 23% of foreign aid spending in 2020. Examples of military aid include funds for training or paying a country’s military, as well as sending weapons, vehicles, and other military equipment.

That's the first step.

Congress should cut food subsidies, farm subsidies, energy subsidies, housing subsidies, rural subsidies, development subsidies, K-12 subsidies, college subsidies, welfare subsidies, disaster subsidies, security subsidies, community subsidies, developer subsidies, water subsidies, grazing subsidies, unemployment subsidies, training subsidies, highway subsidies, transit subsidies, airport subsidies, rail subsidies, worker subsidies, foreign aid subsidies, business subsidies, flood subsidies, power subsidies, and much more.

If the government is subsidizing everyone, then it is effectively subsidizing no one.

Painful for a few years but at least we can get a grip of it and keep it under control
