everywhere you look there are post from laid off workers in the tech sectors. They need to relook at how business operate. You took a job with the company to do specific work. You agreed to be paid a certain amount with agreed upon perks/benefits. Nothing was agreed regarding work-life balance. Nothing agreed about "culture" - that was only your perception. Nothing was agreed re:what would occur if you were lid off. If the skills you brought to the company are no longer needed, you get laid off. There was no agreement regarding severance, continuation of benefits, etc. Because of the size of the layoffs, the law says you must get 60 days notice. A layoff of a tech worker is quite different from that of say a construction worker. A disgruntled tech worker could screw up a company's computer system in 5 minutes. So an immediate cutting off of access to the system is necessary. These people will get paid for 2 months without having to lift a finger. They get paid while finding their next job. They will get some type of severance package - depends on the company.
Historically, (and from own experience), one was told that you were being laid off. My experience was 2 weeks notice. Minimal severance package given. You started your job search, filed for unemployment and moved on.
You can also look at the work from home culture. This was allowed due to Covid. That has pretty much passed. Now you don't want to return to the office, but boss says you have to. Either comply or leave. You were hired to work where your boss said you worked. Don't like it then you have a decision. Your wants vs you employment agreement. Make a choice.
