The Republican-controlled TX Senate has passed a bill that would allow the Governor to overturn the results of an election in only one of it's 256 counties - Harris county, home to Houston and a large Democratic voting base.
The pretext for the bill is that in the 2022 election, there were an insufficient number of paper ballots available in Harris County to be used in the event that the machines went down. Despite that, the election went off without a major problem, but Republicans have jumped on this as a chance to control the county going forward.
It will be interesting to see if this blatant power-grab will withstand a court challenge. |
