It's a calculated risk. I get job requests all the time from companies that I've never heard of, via one of the platforms. Most of the time I don't accept these jobs, primarily because they don't meet my criteria (like the pay is crap). Occasionally, if I get one that sounds good on the surface, I might take a flier on it. What's the worst that can happen.....I end up doing a job for free? It hasn't happened yet, but I'm cognizant going in that it's always a possibility with an unknown entity. I will never take a 2nd job with a new company until I get paid for the 1st job. That philosophy has served me pretty well.
