Become an Oklahoma notary public with Notary Rotary, Inc.

Qualifications:

To qualify for appointment as an Oklahoma notary public an individual must:

• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be a legal resident of Oklahoma, or an out-of-state resident who is employed within Oklahoma
• Be 18 years of age or older

Term of Appointment:

An Oklahoma notary public commission is valid for a term of four (4) years. At the end of four years, the notary will have the option of applying for a renewal of the commission.

Step 1: Download and complete the Oklahoma notary public application.

Download and complete the application according to the instructions provided. When you have completed the application for appointment you should check for completeness and accuracy. Once you are satisfied the application is correctly completed you will need to mail or hand deliver it, as well as a $25.00 application fee for a new commission or a $20.00 application fee for a renewal, to the Secretary of State's office at the following address:

Step 2: Receive your commission and obtain your official surety bond and official seal from Notary Rotary, Inc.

The Secretary of State's Office will review your application for appointment as a notary public. If the application is found to be in order, your commission will be mailed to you along with an informational brochure and a blank bond form containing both an oath of office and loyalty oath. Your commission will be valid for four years. If corrections are needed, the application will be returned along with a letter of explanation. Upon receipt of your commission, a notary seal will need to be purchased and a bond obtained. State law does not require a notary to keep records of their official acts. However, it is recommended that a notary maintain a log of his/her official acts to assist in recalling past notarial acts, if needed, or if legally challenged. The Modern Journal of Notarial Events, available in the Notary Rotary, Inc. online store, is a great way to record all manner of information regarding notarial acts.

Step 3: File your oath of office, loyalty oath, and surety bond with the Secretary of State's office.

Before a person may act as a notary, he/she must file a $1,000.00 surety bond dated the same as the notary commission, an oath of office, loyalty oath and a $10.00 filing fee with the Office of the Secretary of State.
