Posted by JanetK_CA at 12/12/2013 4:22:00 PM | Just a heads up... So far today, I've received at least two emails purporting to be from Amazon.com, thanking me for my order. Fortunately, I don't have any orders pending with them because all were infected with a "trojandownloader" pc virus. All were blocked by my ESET NOD32 antivirus program. (I've noticed that it has been updating multiple times a day lately, so the virus creators have been busy...)
And with a smartphone, these are being downloaded there, as well. Whenever there's the slightest doubt, I don't click on links from the cell phone, thankfully. I've done some research on free cell phone antivirus programs, but does anyone have a favorite they use on an Android phone? |

| | | | | Staples deals on letter paper
Posted by JanetK_CA at 8/28/2013 6:21:00 PM | For those of you with Rewards cards, and who have chosen to get their emails, they've been running pretty frequent deals on letter size paper. The latest one is an in-store rebate. You get an immediate $28 off the usual $49.99 per 10-ream case price, then there's an additional rebate of $12. Bottom line is that you get a full case for $9.99.
These days, the 2nd rebate can be completed online just by filling in some numbers. Nothing to copy or mail. You just have to print off a coupon from the email ad. They're usually only good for a few days, but I've been seeing new ones coming in fairly frequently.
That's a tough deal to beat, imo. The paper itself is the Staples multi-purpose brand and I've never had any problems with it jamming.

Posted by JanetK_CA at 7/3/2013 7:14:00 PM | I just had an interesting phone call from a borrower I signed recently. Their property remained in their trust and the HUD ended up with a small cash-out amount. Since the vesting was in the name of the trust, the check was issued payable to the name of the trust, which makes sense to me. The problem is that their bank told them that they couldn't simply endorse it to themselves, they had to have an account in the name of the trust to be able to deposit (or cash) the check. [I don't remember how the trust was named, but it usually has both the husband's and wife's names included.]
Has anyone ever heard of anything like that? The title co couldn't help them, so I suggested they might try a different bank or even a different branch, to see if they could get lucky. If that doesn't work, they're going to have to open a separate checking account just to get access to their funds! I don't usually hear about what happens after a signing and I thought this was an interesting situation, something I'd never thought about before. Got me wondering how people usually handle this. I'd be very surprised if most people with a trust have a separate checking account for it - but I could be wrong.
