First Source Title in Parma, OH -- G/B/U??
Posted by Yoli/CA at 11/20/2013 9:43:00 AM
SC and forum discussion talks of huge pkgs, late docs and low pay. No one has commented on whether they pay.

According to FST, "Payments for all closings are ready to be processed after 7 business days from the funding date. Payments are processed and sent out on the 15th and 30th of every month."

We've agreed on a fee and I've notified them I need docs no later than Thursday evening for a Friday signing.

Guess we'll see how it goes ........... Wink

SolutionStar regarding NationStar requirement
Posted by Yoli/CA at 11/7/2013 2:15:00 PM
Received the email below yesterday from SolutionStar regarding a new requirement from their major account, NationStar. (note: I've worked with SolutionStar only once - good to know that was enough to be a "valued member of ... " Wink )
===========

Hello,

As a valued member of our signing agent network, we are contacting you
regarding a new requirement for our vendors. One of our largest clients,
Nationstar Mortgage, is now requiring faxbacks of the critical documents on
every closing. There will be a checklist of required documents in each
Nationstar closing package. You will be asked to fax or scan/email the
listed documents as soon as possible after the closing appointment. You can
then drop the signed closing package at the nearest UPS location at your
earliest convenience. It is extremely important that we receive the
critical documents within 8 business hours of the closing so we can send
them to the client.. If you have any questions or issues, please contact
the Nationstar Closing Team at 877-530-7977.

Please fax or scan/email the critical documents to the following location:
Fax: 469-322-3399

Full notary fee for cancelled loan.
Posted by Yoli/CA at 10/28/2013 8:35:00 PM
A new-to-me company called me for a signing scheduled for 9/21/13. We agreed on a notary fee. This was for split signing. I printed 2 sets of docs, traveled to borrower, presented package and had everything signed and initialed as required. Hiring company sent me a shipping label for next notary to have non-borrowing spouse sign his portion and docs were forwarded for a timely 2nd phase of signing.

Well, seems that somewhere in the interim, that nbs decided he didn't want to sign. Today, I receive a check for $35 rather than $125 with no explanation. Online, I looked up recorded deeds from that date forward and nothing appears.

I sent the following email to the hiring entity:
<<Received check #147576 today in the amount of $35.00. My agreed-to fee was $125.00. Why the discrepancy? I printed, traveled to signing at the appointed time, all docs were signed as required and I forwarded document package to next notary as instructed on provided shipping label.

In other words, I kept my part of the agreement and performed my duties as instructed and required. Why was I not paid as agreed?

Thanks!>>

Their response:
<<We looked into the issue and the 2nd part was not billed out correctly on our side. It has since been corrected and the will released this Wednesday. Sorry for the delay.>>

Morale of the story: Stick up for yourself. You've worked hard and earned your pay.

American Title, Omaha, NE request for BGC
Posted by Yoli/CA at 10/15/2013 11:34:00 AM
I signed up with American Title early this year. Haven't worked with them yet 'cause any time they've called, we can't seem to negotiate a mutually agreeable fee. Wink

Yesterday, I get an email from them requesting a background check - no surprise there. HOWEVER, what did take me by surprise was the following:

"Required Back Ground Check:

In order to service our clients in the best way possible, American Title is requiring all active notary signing agents to perform a back ground check facilitated through our local service provider, One Source.

This is a FREE service for all of our signing agents and your credit score is NOT affected by this check. At this time, American Title WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTING a back ground check from One Source (the NNA back ground check will not be accepted at this time).

URL: https://www08.8f7.com/4DACTION/WebAppOrderEntryOneSource/COMP3006AT"

Did you notice the statement in parenthesis? That's what shocked me.

Anyway, I went to the link. It appeared to be for someone seeking employment. Sooooooo ... being the stickler that I am, I responded to them:

"Insofar as a background check, please be advised I am a commissioned notary in the State of California. As a condition of commission, I undergo a complete and thorough background check by the FBI and the Department of Justice. I did look over the BGC form you sent. It appears to be for a prospective employee of the company. I am an independent contractor; I am not seeking a position with ATI nor am I seeking a salary. Please advise if I was sent the employee form in error."

To which they responded this morning:

"That was our standard background check for most notaries, however I was recently informed that that does not apply to notaries in California. Thank you for bringing that to my attention."

Superior Signing, Ladera Ranch, CA

Called at 6:10 pm for a "regular refi" no fax-backs in next town over to sign 7:30-8:00 tonight. Seems the original notary was having problems printing.

Sure. I can do it. Caller says they pay $100 ... but, can I do this one for $110? I tell her my base edoc fee is $125 and that covers up to 130 pages. She, very nicely, tells me they can't pay that. Sorry ... but, thanks for calling. (I wasn't even charging her for short notice or night rates Wink )

It's a shame, but, I'm almost sure she'll find someone to do it for under $100 ..... Frown

Interesting/funny GNW ...
Posted by Yoli/CA at 9/30/2013 12:58:00 PM
Got a call yesterday for GNW for a DMV transfer of title. Asked all pertinent questions and they readily agree to $75 fee and they'll pay cash.

Get to the house. Young woman answers the door and is so happy to see me and comments on how punctual I am -- I had told her I'd be there by 3:00; got there at 2:50. We go into the kitchen and there's a young man and another young woman there. On the kitchen table is a HUGE stack of cash -- like you see in the movies!

Proceed to the business at hand. Young man is selling vehicle to 2nd young woman. Everything goes smoothly until it comes to my fee. Seems they were splitting the cost. The buyer hands me $40. The young couple is SHORT $2. Don't forget, there's all that cash on the table. They're not touching it. They finally scrimp together enough in quarters to make up the $2!! Smile LOL

Accurate National Signings
Posted by Yoli/CA at 9/30/2013 12:06:00 PM
Didn't want to hijack Ryan's most interesting post below:

101livescan: You're often posting about ANS and it's owner, Amanda Kirkish. You're probably doing so just to keep that company in the forefront and make all notaries reading here on NotRot aware that there are SS's out there who are linked to less than desirable principals. You're in the loop. You appear to know what's going on with that investigation. I get it.

HOWEVER ... has it occurred to you that you may be jeopardizing that investigation by divulging so much information? Has it occurred to you that the alleged perpetrators also read here and some of the posted information may allow them to do so damage control?

Please don't get me wrong, Cheryl. Being human, I'm also in the "inquiring minds want to know" group. But, personally, I'd prefer to get the details after the investigation comes to a successful conclusion. Hate it when something gets botched up on a technicality.

Had a refi signing this morning. Borrower said she started the process last week Wednesday, 9/11th! This is a split signing and husband is scheduled to sign on 9/24th so RTC ends 9/27th. Start to finish, only 2-1/2 weeks!

She's ecstatic!! She's taking funds out to do some much needed repairs and interest rate is 5%.

Data Quick, DE
Posted by Yoli/CA at 9/18/2013 9:22:00 AM
At about 8:15 am yesterday, I get a call from Data Quick. Need a notary for in-branch Chase signing for 9:00. Docs are at bank. All I have to do is show up. Bank is about 30 minutes from me.

Sorry. Scheduler was very apologetic for last minute call. I was too. Didn't even discuss fee as I knew she was in a hurry to find someone.

Have never worked with Data Quick before. Anyone have any experience with them?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The silver lining on this is that less than 5 minutes later, I get a call from Title Source for another Chase signing for Friday. Received those docs a couple of hours later. Smile
Title Source and Chase docs
Posted by Yoli/CA at 9/14/2013 10:01:00 AM
I know I've read posts here where in-house signings for Chase are sometimes stressful as docs can be very late and bank ends up printing. What I don't recall is if that's with Title Source or FASS or ServiceLink or maybe it just doesn't matter -- Chase is Chase.
My question is what is your experience with a Title Source signing for Chase at the borrower's home as it relates to docs? Did you receive them timely?
I've accepted a Chase signing for Title Source for next Wednesday. Asked during confirmation call and borrowers are not flexible. Emailed TSI asking when I may expect docs and advised borrowers are not flexible and the reasons for that. TSI closing coordinator responded, "We will get docs to you when we received the docs from Chase." Well, I figured that much. Didn't bother thanking him for his response. Guess I was hoping for a "we'll notify lender and push for an asap release." So much for keeping them in the loop .......
TIA!! Smile
Well ... the housework's done. The banana nut bread is baked. The pesto is made. The hummus is made. 2014 file labels are ready. File's are purged.
Something I always put off to another day -- run the system defrag and the disc cleanup and, while that's going on, blow out the printers!
The last posting here was January 2013. Most posters there were raving how BNT picked up the slack of a non-paying SS they hired. SC's last review was December 2012.
Anything recent? It's great they paid when their SS would not. However, how is it working directly with BNT? Do they pay decent fees? Do they pay on funding? Are jobs assigned well in advance or last minute? Are does received well ahead of appointment or last minute?
TIA!! Smile
Amazing ID ...
Posted by Yoli/CA at 8/29/2013 11:01:00 PM
I notarized for someone today with an Arizona driver's license. She was born 1984. License was issued 2010. It expires 2049!!
Just looked up the Arizona DMV. Sure enough. They issue "extended" driver's licenses that expire when the person turns 65. They do, however, have to take vision screening and update picture every 12 years. Wow! I grew up in Arizona. Got my first license there. It was not like that "back then!"
Still some decent loans in the pipeline
Posted by Yoli/CA at 8/29/2013 5:46:00 AM
I am happy to report there are still some decent-rate loans in the pipeline. This morning, I'm accommodating 2 separate loans for same TC, different lenders:
1. Conventional refinance of primary residence - 15 year, $231,765, 3%, property in California
and
2. Investment property purchase - 30 year, $88,138, 4.375%, property in South Carolina
Hopefully, more of these better rate loans to come. In this past month, I've seen some refi loans in the high 4% to low 5% range for primary residence.
Is EOM starting up early? :)
Posted by Yoli/CA at 8/24/2013 11:38:00 AM
We can only hope and pray.
As a lot of others have posted all week, my business has also been slow. I did have scheduled for 3:00 yesterday. Had just finished printing those docs, when I get a call from a very good SS who needed me for an in-house signing at 4:00 and no printing from me. Told them I could be there at 4:30. She'd check. Never called back.
Earlier, I had 2 other callers who c/wouldn't meet my fee. Oh well.
While at my 3:00 (in fact, had just sat down), phone rings. Another good SS. Can I do a last minute at 4:00 in town next to me. Figuring I'd be done at 4, run home and print and prepare, told him I could do it 6 or any time during the weekend (except I have an 11:00 on Saturday). He thanked me for taking his call (he's always so polite) and would check to see if it could be changed. Didn't hear back. Frown
Already have one scheduled for Tuesday morning.
If this continues, looks like we may a fairly decent EOM. YAY!!!! Smile
DocPros, Inc., Murrieta, CA
Posted by Yoli/CA at 8/21/2013 6:07:00 PM
Had a call from them yesterday for a refi. Call came in at 1:31 pm and signing was scheduled for 4:00 pm same day. I asked if docs were available. She said no, usually they have to procure notary and then they get docs. Told her I could do it if I could have docs within a 1/2 hour. She then got all huffy/puffy saying she couldn't promise that and it would be better if she called another notary because if she assigned it to me and I didn't have docs within the 1/2 hour I would cancel on them. <<she rattled all that off just like I wrote it ... in one long breath>> I very politely and with a smile said, "okay, thanks for calling!"
We hadn't even gotten to the fee part. I have never cancelled out on them. I think the only time I cancelled a signing is when my son-in-law died unexpectedly last year and I rushed to be with my daughter ... and, I gave that TC the name and number to another notary closer to signing location. I'll give this scheduler the benefit of a doubt. She's probably feeling stressed out due to work being slow and she may not be too sure of her job ...........
Signature Closers -- IMPORTANT!
Posted by Yoli/CA at 8/21/2013 4:48:00 PM
Received an email from them today titled "Document". The email says "Hi! Here's the document. I've uploaded it to Google Docs. Download here. Thanks and make it a great day!" I clicked on the download here button and it takes me to the Google Docs window where you choose your email provider and enter your email address and password.
This didn't sit well with me. I emailed Signature Closers and asked what's this about and that I was not about to enter my password and possibly have some stranger access it. The response is "Disregard. We're investigating this email."
Appears to be some kind of scam. DO NOT ENTER YOUR EMAIL & PASSWORD!!
Title Source
Posted by Yoli/CA at 8/21/2013 1:30:00 PM
Last week Sunday, I was doing some email marketing to some well-rated companies - including Title Source. That next day, I received a response to a vendor management person at Title Source informing me they haven't been calling me 'cause my BGC expired March 2013 and that they only accept NNA BGC. I responded immediately and sent her my NNA BGC and certification; plus, I updated all my docs on their website.
A little background here: My last signing with TS was December 2011. I inquired several times after that and each time I was told my fees were too high and there were other notaries in my area who work for less.
Well, this Monday I got a call from TS for a Quicken signing tomorrow (Thursday). I accepted. Then, yesterday, they called me again for another signing for next week. Couldn't accommodate for my base fee. Location is through 1-lane mountainous roads at least an hour away. Of course, scheduler won't negotiate on fees.
But, I digress. The point being, several NotRotters have posted they haven't heard from TS in a while. You may want to check to see if your profile and supporting docs are current.
Nice surprise for me this morning.
Accommodated a signing on Wednesday, 7/31/13, for a second home (no RTC). They did request fax-back of criticals. Rather than digging through the stack, I always just scan the entire package back to them. Signing was at 6 pm so SL received scan 8/1 and acknowledged receipt with a "thank you."
In an email time-stamped 12:17 am today, I received notice of payment into my account today. IT'S THERE!!!!
Wouldn't it be nice if all companies paid immediately upon funding ... ?? California Dreaming ... Wink
TCC Notary, Lake Forest, CA -- mixed reviews in SC
Posted by Yoli/CA at 8/2/2013 12:05:00 PM
2013 alone shows them with a wide range. Many of the reviews are from CA, so thought I'd ask the forum.
Do they pay within 30 days? They've agreed to my $XXX fee and I'm dealing with Geoff Mauer. He caught me yesterday while I was on the road. This is for a signing next Wednesday in my same town. He was very nice on the phone except he failed to mention they need a bilingual notary.
Your comments are greatly appreciated! TIA.
Outlook --
Posted by Yoli/CA at 7/27/2013 11:25:00 AM
A few months ago, my hotmail email was changed to Outlook. Okay, I rolled with it. I was still able to receive and send email. I was also able to have my various hotmail addresses linked so I could switch from one to another with one click -- didn't have to logout of one and login to another.
Well, as of a few days ago, my hotmail addresses are no longer linked. The "link accounts" page no longer exists (at least for me it doesn't). I'm having to logout of one and login in to another each time I need to access the other e-dress. Anyone else going through this? Were you able to resolve it?
Yes, I also have a gmail address. However, that's not what I use for my notary business. Maybe it's time I bite the bullet and change everything over to gmail .........
Any help is greatly appreciated! TIA!
Signature/Name Affidavit
If you have a Signature/Name Affidavit for a borrower and it consists of 4 pages, do you stamp and sign each page or treat the 4 pages as one document and sign and stamp it just once -- stapling 4 pages together?
Is the notary an accomplice?
Posted by Yoli/CA at 7/16/2013 10:29:00 AM
If the notary knows of a crime being committed and does not report it to the authorities, is that notary considered an accomplice and thereby guilty of that same crime?
I mean actually "knows" and is not just making conversation; possibly even has the proof in his/her hands.
As an example, an earlier post mentioned a TC VP taking kickbacks. That's, IMO, a serious allegation. Don't know if action cited would actually be considered a "kickback."
However, if as a NP/LSA I receive docs and notice something blatantly morally unethical and don't report it, would I be an accomplice and also held responsible?
ServiceLink corporate headquarters
Posted by Yoli/CA at 7/11/2013 6:16:00 PM
Just found out they're moving August 12th from Coraopolis, PA to Moon Township, PA.
I've noticed a slow-down in calls from them to me for signings since about the time I read here on NotRot that SL's merging with LSI. Anyone else having less calls from ServiceLink?
If ServiceLink is adopting the LSI platform, that would explain it for me. LSI doesn't call me anymore as they have quite a few notaries in my area (greater Sacramento area) who will work for under $100 per signing. In my previous service area (San Francisco-East Bay Area), LSI had no problem meeting my fees. If we all stood our ground, we'd ALL get a living fee.
