I have my background check through NR, which, in my opinion is the only way to go. I also am going in to SC and downgrading my star rating of them as they are promoting and trying to force membership in XYZ. If enough people do this, byby 4 stars.
Hello,
I wanted to send you a notification email to make you aware of new background check regulations put in place by a group called the Signing Professionals Workgroup (www.signingprofessionalsworkgroup.org). Some of the largest national lenders and title companies got together to standardize background check requirements as well as signing agent certifications.
We are in the process of reviewing our background checks for compliance with these new regulations and we do not have a background check on file for you. You have 3 different ways to provide us with a valid check. We highly recommend the NNA search as most everyone accepts this check however the options are:
1. You can order a search for $35 from Crimcheck by using this link: https://clients.crimcheck.com/applink/SIGNATUREEXTERNAL/
2. You can have a background check completed by the National Notary Association. They are offering a program to help with the cost currently. Please go to nationalnotary.org or call 800-876-6827 to do this.
Q: I purchased a previous background screening from the NNA already. Do I need to purchase another one?
Purchased screening in 2012-If you purchased a background screening from the NNA last year (2012) you will need to get a re-screening in order to meet the new SPW standards, which is available for $39.
Purchased screening in 2011-If you purchased a screening from the NNA in 2011, you’ll need to get a new screening to meet the new SPW standards which is available for $65.
If you purchased a screening from another vendor within the past year, the NNA will provide a store credit for a future purchase at their store (stamps, journals, etc.) equal to the amount of the receipt that you provide from this previous check.
3. You can supply a background check from any provider that meets the criteria outlined below. We recommend Crimcheck or the NNA because we know their search meets the requirements. For other providers this may be a custom check and could be more expensive and/or unavailable.
Certified Signing Professional Background Screening/Check Requirements
A valid background screening or check will search the following sources of data for the past 10 years (7 if your state does not provide 10 years):
- Social Security Number trace search
- County criminal court search
- Statewide criminal search
- Federal criminal search
- Nationwide criminal database search
- Motor vehicle records search
- National Sex Offender Public Website
- USA Patriot Act search
For additional details, refer to the Background Screening Standards from the Signing Professionals Workgroup (http://signingprofessionalsworkgroup.org/signing-professional-standards/background-screening-standards/).
Please provide an updated background check as soon as possible so that you do not miss out on future closings. For many national lenders (Bank of America, Citi, Chase) this requirement is already mandated so we are unable to assign you any of their transactions until this is complete and on file.

Lower pay for the notary. The notary eating the expenses that are not reimbursed or allowed as a tax deduction, and a reduction of companies that they could still be Independent Contractors for. I believe this should be fought in every legal way possible. JMHO |

Posted by SDSigner at 11/8/2013 2:37:00 PM | | Hi, it's been some time since I have been on here and decided to share an experience that happened to me. A couple of days ago I had stacked 4 signings and knew that I had no time to waste in between appointments. My next signing was at the Union Bank branch and the borrowers called to say that they were running late, notary nightmare! As each minute passed I became more nervous about being late for every other appointment that I had set. The borrowers were an hour late! The bank manager was about to close the doors and they showed up. I was trying to stay positive as this was my first signing for an escrow officer that I was trying to get as my client. I could feel the awkward situation as the borrowers apologized and my attitude was still poor. I shook it off and tried to be nice even though I was still upset. Long story short, the borrowers wrote a really nice letter about the positive experience they had during the signing to the branch manager. The branch manager passed it along to the escrow officer. That escrow officer just told me about the letter and that she is going to use me as her #1 notary. That just really made my long weekend and I thought that I would share a nice story. |

HVR still has not paid me :-( I personally believe that HVR will accept as many new orders from escrow companies, and ultimately burn the notary(es) by filing a BK. Just my opinion. I have taken a lot of negative and personal attacks but the truth is I have been personally driving and speaking to escrow managers that I deal with face to face about HVR not paying notaries and they all have told me that they are no longer giving orders to HVR. That's all that I can do and would suggest that other notaries do the same. |
