Jurat vs. Acknowledgment

Hello Everyone,
I am new to the Signing Agent Field. My question is regarding attaching a Jurat and Acknowledgment to documents. Jurat for an oath and Acknowkedgment for Identity?
It is only recommended and not required by Michigan law. Is it still necessary?

Also this loose certificate, only if a correction is being made to a document?

Thanks to all who can hep clarify for me.

What is "it"? A notary journal is recommended but not required.

Or is "it" having to have either a jurat or an acknowledgement?

Loose certificates are used only if there is no certificate on the preprinted docs. We can use a California jurat, for example. We cannot choose which type of certificate to use i.e. jurat or acknowledgement. You may also use a blank acknowledgement or jurat if you are notary #2 in a two part closing.

You are correct in that a jurat is for oath or affirmation and acknowledgement is for identity. That is the rule of thumb; you as the notary cannot make the determination as to which one to use if one is not provided.
