Long oath

I recently received an affidavit where the last line of the affidavit said something to the effect of "I've had this document read to me". So I read the entire document to the borrower and then had them perform the oath. Is that really necessary?

Are you sure it doesn't say the equivalent of "I have read this document or have had it read to me"?

It says " affiants further certify that they have heard read to Affiants The Full Facts of This Affidavit, and understand its contents"

Re: "heard read"

Umm. Sounds like a holdover from an earlier day when a lot of people couldn't read but were too proud to say so.

CT Notary Public Manual warns us about taking depositions, by the way. I'm NOT questioning what you did! Just food for thought....
