Monthly Average Mileage
I wonder how much do you guys drive per month doing this type of work?
Is it recommended to drive a small econo car?
TIA

Just did my taxes today and wrote off 22,800 in business mileage alone. I'm one of those who used to put 10,000 a year on my cars and drive them for 10 years. At this rate I will need to replace my car every 3-5 years!

I just did my taxes too and I wrote off 36,000 miles, I averaged 3,000 a month last year. I only did 20,000 last year, my car now has 58,000 miles on it. I have to do an oil change once a month. I am on my third set of tires and this car is a 2003.

My numbers are similar to Joan's and Margaret's.
That is why I will not leave the house for under $100, even in my own small town.
Replacing a car is too expensive!

I turned down two signings this week because they were 2 hours away and they would not meet my fee. I am the same, I will not leave my house for under $100. I turned one down last week because they would not meet my fee for a 2 hour drive. I did the signing this week because the borrowers had to cancel because they could not get a notary to come there last week. I got the call back and got my fee that I quoted them the week before.

I drive a very nice SUV and put a ton of miles on it. I change cars every 2 years and its all a company expense.

yearly write off
So what do you have to "be" in order to write off expenses? Are you considered a small business, independant contractor, sole propriter? I have been wondering what I need to do in CA to make sure that I can write off business supplies at the end of this year.
