Borrow calls looking for notary
I just had a borrower call looking for a notary. The lender sent her the loan package and left it up to her to get docs notarized. I quoted her my usual trip fee. She said she would get back with me.....haven't heard back yet. This is the first time I've had this request from a borrower. Is this common? She got my name off NotRot so she may be reading this!!??!!

Yes, I have had several of those over the last couple of years. Some companies are now sending the docs to the borrower.

Yes, I had it happen a few weeks ago--the borrowers had all the docs--in fact, it was a very easy & pleasant signing.

You guys that have done this before charge your normal trip fee, correct? Have borrower write you a check at signing?

Re: Borrow calls looking for notary - Martha
I wouldnt have borrower write me a check. For all individuals, unless I know them personally, I require cash.

I had this happen many times. Usually it is a Wells Fargo loan. They do not appoint a notary to the closing, they leave it up to the borrower to find one or refer them to a local Wells Fargo bank and they can get in notarized there. Usually they are very easy HELOCS from my experience. Borrowers usaully pay in cash....how great is that!!!

Did one in May, borrower had docs, but got paid by title co. Worked out fine, got paid within 30 days and the people had already had time to go over docs and just wanted to get it all signed.

I haven't had a call like that yet but a few years ago a friend of mine refinanced and the lender sent her the docs and told her to get them notarized and send them back. She had an aquaintance of hers who is a notary and works for a law firm notarize the docs. That was it just the notarization, no explanations but she didn't charge them so I guess you get what you pay for.

When I get a call from a borrower that the company sent the docs to and told them to find a notary, I tell them that I am a Loan Signing specialist, that I do the loan docs for a living, and if they like I can go over the docs with them but my fee would be *****, if they just want the notarizations then it is $10 per document that needs notarizing. Many a time they will say they just want the notarizations doing. BUT when they get to me, the instructions in the package say that they must all be signed in front of a notary and there is a document in there for the notary to sign that they did the signing!!! So, now, I am usually not available for those.
