56.1 cents per mile average driving cost???

AAA reports that the average cost per mile driving cost is 56.1 cents. That includes all costs and depreciation. That means for a 40 mile round trip run the cost would be $22.44. For a 100 mile round trip run, $56.10. Not much left if you go out for a low fee. I do realize that the type of car will create variations in the cost. Something to think about.

Thank youSmiley I do some regular mobile notary work, and I always charged 50 cents a mile travel fee. I am now going to raise it, as obviously 50 cents a mile doesn't cover it any more.

Extra ammunition for standing my ground on decent fees

Thanks for posting these numbers. I totally believe them.

You have given me extra ammunition for standing my ground on decent fees.

Do you happen to have a website address for this announcement so I can give my clients the exact quote?

THANKS!

Clarification please

Good Question!

I am a newbie and am a little confused. Do you charge mileage on every signing or just those out of your primary service area?

Re: Clarification please

Some mileage is included in my base fee. Then I charge for extra miles. You need to set a fee for a job partially based on how many miles you will drive. If it is your auto, then the expenses will be yours and your fee should reflect that part of your costs back to payer of the signing job. How you elect to recoup the cost for travel beyond that which is included in your base fee, is your decision. We all want to make a profit.

Re: Clarification please

If gas is $2.24 a gallon you would only get approx. 4 miles to the gallon. If gas is 2.80 a gallon you would get approx. 5 miles per gallon. You must be driving a tank.

Re: Clarification please

Go to source, see web address in earlier answer. You will find that this number reflects your total costs like depreciation, insurance, service costs as well as gas costs. I drive a midsized auto, not a tank.
