Brother 5150

Does the Brother 5150 have PCL 6?

Anyone use/have any trouble printing out eDocs with this printer?

Looking to buy a new Laser, that can distinguish between Letter and Legal size papers.

Any help/feedback is more than appreciated!

There are alot of posts on differant printers just use the search button and type in 5150. To answer your question the 5150 is PCL6. I have a 5170DNLT and i have had no complaints as of this post.

I just had to get in on this post. I bought a Brother all-in-one about 2 years ago and it has never worked right, it has been nothing but a bunch of junk. All it is used for now is a fax every few months. Thank god for my HP 4000 and HP 7110 all-in-one, they are great, but the real winner is the HP4000 laserjet, it is a real work horse. I personally wouldn't touch a brother printer, just my opinion.

I will have to keep this info on HP in mind. I have been using a Brother HL-1440 for over a year and it has worked great so far. Probably printed out over 2,000 pages. It has printed out all of the PDF files I get nicely. When I got to NY, I bought a second one through Amazon and so far so good. They have however only a PCL4 emulation. I got both lasers for about $85.

Can't beat the price Pete, and if they are working fine, then I certainly wouldn't worry about it.

I looked up user comments before I bought and they either loved it or hated it. I took a chance. So far so good. But since I haven't done signings for a wide range of SS's out there I don't know when the PCL6 protocol will come up and how the PCL4 compares to the 6? If you know, when you get a chance maybe you can update me briefly. I'll also look through the threads.

For what its worth, I use a Brother HL-5150 DLT (has duplexer/extra lower tray) and I love it. Also have HP multi-function, but the Brother's no slouch. Have owned other laser printer and have no major regrets. Got a great deal - paid $240 for the whole package (incl. extended warranty fm OfficeMax!)

My only challenge to date is consistently getting all packages to print from the proper tray. However, from past threads I've learned that depends on the format the SS/TC/lender uses. So I've just followed the advice of others and put Legal in Tray#1, Ltr in #2 and make sure to change settings so my computer & printer understand that.

But, to each his own - right?

I've had mine about 3 months. Never a problem. It is PCL6. Put about 10000 pages thru so far. Cartidges refill easily. Single tray. Print everything legal except the DOT and riders which I print letter- except when TC or SS says to print all on legal. Only a minor inconvience.

I have a Brother 5150DLT and it works great! The cartridges are a little pricy (69.00) but the printer alone has never given me problems. I've had it for over a year now.

I also have a 5150DLT and it works great. Have never had any problems at all.
