Here's another odd one..

Had 2 closings scheduled fir the same day, same town, same names. The last name was rather unusual, so when I called to confirm I thought I was dealing with a mother/daughter situation. Turns out the women weren't even related and didn't know the "other" even existed. And the town isn't that big. Smile

Well, my first thought is -- why are you discussing confidential information
with borrowers?
I realize you thought that they were related but, maybe (even if they were
related) they don't want confidential information discussed with relatives.

I didn't take it that PJM was discussing personal or confidential information as much as trying to confirm the identity of whom they had the two signings with. The coincidence of "same as" information on same date would be unusual for a small town and would have needed phone calls to verify whom he/she was going to be meeting with in addition to verifying the address location and time.
There has been occassional "double booking" by some SS Co's, so the two appts would have needed to be verified.

See how "assume" may get one in an awkward circumstance.

As you say, "there has been occassional double booking, so the two
appts would have needed to be verified".
Two phone calls is all that would have been needed.

I never discuss with anyone who has needed my Notarial services.

Geez.. lighten up, will you? Smile I thought it was VERY odd...2 different borrowers, same name, same town, same day. I asked the FIRST borrower ONLY if she was related to Ms.XX.. I DID NOT disclose the fact I was going to do her closing, also.

I didn't mean to sound harsh. I have to really be diligent with keeping
borrowers (or anyone elses Notarial stuff) confidential --- my lips are
sealed. I live in a community where most people "are related" in some
form or another and, their lips flap like a ducks butt.
I've even had people call me and ask why so and so's car was in my
driveway...... it is not any of their business.

=)
