Try a better grade of paper. I will get more jams with Staples paper and none with Hammermill.

Re: Staples paper

My co recently switched back to Staples brand paper (we were using Boise Cascade). Upon stacking the Staples brand next to the Boise, each ream (500 pp) was about 1/4" THINNER than the Boise (very noticeable) -- both were supposedly 20# paper. -- True story!!

Eric,

Eric,

This information was obtained via Dell's website (You may also want to contact
the company directly: Http://www.dell.com):

To prevent paper jams from occurring when using your Dell 1700 or 1700n Laser Printer, it is recommended that you consider the following:

Verify that the edges of your paper are not folded or curled.

Prepare a stack of paper for loading by flexing or fanning it back and forth.

Prepare Paper For Use

Load the paper in the tray with the print side facing down.

Slide the two side guides and the back guide until they fit snugly against the stack of paper.

Adjust the Side and Back Paper Guides

When inserting envelopes into the 1700 or 1700n laser printer, insert them with the flap side face down and with the stamp area on the top right side.

To reduce paper jams, it is recommended that you not use envelopes that:

Have excessive curl

Are stuck together

Are damaged in any way

Contain windows, holes, perforations, cutouts, or embossing

Use metal clasps, string ties, or metal folding bars

Have postage stamps attached

Have any exposed adhesive when the flap is in the sealed position

To prevent damage to either your printer or to transparency media, it is recommended that you use transparencies designed for laser printers.

Recommended Amounts of Paper
Type Of Paper # of Sheets
Plain Inkjet Paper Tray 1: 250 (20lb paper)
Transparencies, Envelopes, or Cards Tray 1: 10 Sheets, Envelopes or Cards
Labels Tray 1: 10 sheets

When feeding paper manually into the printer or when loading the paper tray, do not force the paper into the printer or into the paper tray.

Verify that the paper guide is not causing the paper to bow.

Verify that the printer is sitting on a flat, level surface.

Verify that the printer settings are correct for the type of document you want to print.

Verify that the paper is resting against the right side of the paper tray.

Good night, how many instructions do you need?

I have a Samsung and it's throw the paper in and wait for the finished product. I don't know that I wouldn't send that back to Dell. Good luck

Eric
I have to reset the printer options on mine or it jams. For some reason the default is legal and tray two, which will jam. I reset to letter and tray one and it works fine.
Hope this helps.
