Bad checks
There was a discussion further down about what to do with bad checks. Thought I'd post this in a new thread so it doesn't get lost...
The Commercial Collection Agency Association (http:/www.ccaacollect.com) has some pretty good info about collections available for free. I also found a link to a summary of state bad check laws available at:
http:/www.ccaacollect.com/NSFCHECKPAMPHLET2004.pdf
Note that this is a link to a PDF file, and doesn't appear on their website. The summary is 3 years old, so some info may be outdated.
I found this while skimming through the summary:
"It is generally held that the giving of a bad check in payment of a preexisting debt does not fall within the purview of most states' bad check laws. Since the debt is preexisting the maker of the check did not deprive the payee of any right, procure anything of value from the payee or wrongfully appropriate anything belonging to the payee."
If I'm reading that correctly, tendering an NSF check for a C.O.D. would fall under the law, but paying an invoice with an NSF check would not.

Copy the link and paste it into your browser
It works fine. You probably can't get there from here because I left out a forward slash after the http:
It should have been http://www.ccaacollect.com and http://www.ccaacollect.com/NSFCHECKPAMPHLET2004.pdf

Re: Copy the link and paste it into your browser
Think you could have posted www.ccaacollect.com www.ccaacollect.com/NSFCHECKPAMPHLET2004.pdf
Let's see if that works

Strange
The link to the pamphlet doesn't highlight the pamphlet link itself so it can be clicked on.

Re: Strange
I can't figure out why the URLs don't appear properly either, but they do work - just not from here...

Re: Strange
Mike If you check out my post - the one above "Strange" the links work. Just the one linking to the pamphlet doesn't. For some reason the ones you posted have notaryrotary in front of them.

Bizarre...
Here's a WAG (wild- a**ed guess)...
First time thru they were "blocked" because I left off the second forward slash - NR appears to have added the notaryrotary piece in front of that.
Second time thru, it looks like they were hosed because I didn't put them on separate lines. If that's true, then http://www.ccaacollect.com won't show as a complete link, but this:
http://www.ccaacollect.com
should be usable.
And if that still doesn't work, you can always copy and paste...
