I need printer opinions, and I need them now!

You know I'm serious when I use an exclamation point. My main printer just bought the farm. I need to pick one up at 7 a.m. tomorrow (of course I have the busiest day scheduled that I've had all year). So here's what I'm looking for:

My current printers are both HPs. I'm satisfied and comfortable with HPs.
Laser printer of course, handles legal of course, fast black and white print of course (color not needed)
Dual tray would be nice.
My HP 1300 used to curl the paper, so one that doesn't curl the paper would be nice.
All in One not needed (my other printer is an all in one).
A reasonable price

That's it. Whatcha got?

I have a HP 3005 and love it. It has two trays and I get about 13,000 pages per cartridge. ($90 cartridges). I purchased mine on Ebay for about $385 which was a great price as it was brand new. It prints about 33-35 pages per minute.

Which one do you have - 3005, 3005d, 3005n, 3005dn, 3005x

The only one I see on the HP site that looks like a dual tray is the 3005x. $999. Yikes. E-bay not an option, I need it 12 hours from now.

Re: Which one do you have - 3005, 3005d, 3005n, 3005dn, 3005x

It is the 3005. equivalent to the HP2420. I looked at them at Best Buy and HP .com before I purchased mine and I believe the price was around $600. The letters behind the 3005 represent more features which I did not need or want to pay for trying to keep my overhead at a minimum. I am for simplicity. My receipt only said 3005 but I do have 2 tray options. Good Luck and I don't believe you will be disappointed if you are an HP fan and want to keep your costs down refering to purchase and paper yield.

If you purchase this HP3005 in the store it will probably cost around $600. I found my cartridges online but you will receive a complimentary cartridge with the printer that may be good for 3-6K pages. The quality of the printing is excellent and no curling. The trays are deep and will hold quite a few sheets. This is my opinion and I am sure others will recommend what they are comfortable with. Your page yield is critical and others talk of drum replacement. This I am not sure about but I believe that I read on one of the forums that the HP doesn't have the drum replacement problem.

Looked up the printer on HP

I just looked up the printer on HP.com and it is the HP Laserjet P3005. It retails for $549 on-line. In the store with tax about $600.

Re: Looked up the printer on HP

I have a HP 4100 and just love it. I bought it refurbished 2 years ago and not 1 problem. It is dual tray. It is a workhorse. Paid $300. Worth every penny.

4100's are discontinued, I have three of them now and

love them, I have no idea what hp's replacement is. If you are looking for a quick and inexpensive uint I love my hp 1320 tn which is my mobile printer. Two trays, networked, duplexes and you can control paper curl by adjusting the fusing temperature. My 1320 has literally printed 1000's of sheets with no problems. I also have an hp 2600 which is great but a little slower than the 1320 tn.

Not seeing a 1320 on the HP site either.

No time to hunt around online or on ebay, I'm walking into OfficeMax at 7 a.m. and walking out with a printer asap.

I probably print thousands of pages a week right now, so I need a workhorse.

I love my 4100n, also. Got it from Andy Le, who may

have another: it's a sideline of his. Could you get one on the way and print elsewhere in the meantime (family, friends, kinko's)? The 4100 prints beautifully, can do just about everything (envelopes, etc.) and is an absolute workhorse. I bought the second, stackable tray (also from Andy). No curled edges, either.

You know Linda, I had excellent luck with refurbished

equipment. I have a couple of Brother laser FAXs I bought for $50 each because I wanted to have a laser fax for those docs that get FAXed and they have been chuggin along for 5 years without a single problem. I figured when I bought them (my FAX died) that if they worked for a few months it would have been worth it, its been one of my better investments.

Me too Charles. I have had great luck with my refurbished

printer and my husband bought a fax. The guy I got my printer from, that's all he does is refurbish stuff. He's got a huge warehouse in St. Louis. I haven't had a problem in amost 2 years. Definetly worth it.

Buy one at OfficeMax and return in 30 days

No the preferred way to do business, but buy the one you like the best for your situtation.
If it does not work out, return it and get a different one. Keep in mind buying and return takes time and has a cost, thus, I would not employ the strategy lightly, but it your in a crisis
do what you have to do.

Re: I have 2 that were less than the price of some of them.

I have an HP 1810 which is small it cost less them $100 from Office depot. You may think of getting something like that while you decide what your work horse is going to be. I also have a HP 3050 (it scans, fax's and prints) which I love which is my work horse does everything I need for it to do. It was $245.00 Office depot. It always pays to have 2 printers. You may try and 2 for what some people pay for 1 that if one brakes down you always have a back up. I also use me HP 1810 in my mobile office. It is light weighs about 8 lbs, easy to carry in and out of the office. I also can print two sets of docs at one time with 2 printers. But I can only print on legal or letter size not both. I haven't ran into any problems with that at all. It takes a 12 A cartridge which prints about 2500 to 3000 pages for new $69 but you can find they every where for less then that. Hope that helps.

I have the 2015X (dual tray version of the DN) on my network and love it. I am running it with both Vista and XP Media Center. No problems so far and I have had it for 5 months.

I have the HP p2015dn and love it!

It prints 33ppm. Its really easy to add legal paper to the extension tray so I haven't even needed to purchase the add on tray. If you go to HP's website you can buy the add on legal tray which stacks underneath the printer. I paid $450 after rebate from Office Max. The printer cartridge costs $80. I love this printer.

And the verdict is..........................................

The 2015dn. Picked it up this morning. I was going to spend the extra $$$s for the 3005 (holds 500 pages, greater monthly output), but the only model anyone had was the high end $900 model. Man the 2015 prints quickly. It's kicking out my legal docs so fast that it's throwing them off the tray.

Thanks all.

Re: And the verdict is..........................................

You will be very happy with it... I have had mine since Feburary, I have an older HP, I cannot remember the model... I am not at home... but it is twice the size of this 2015 and the 2015 can out do it.

Hope your day goes as smoothly as your printer purchase!!!
