Kensington Title

Has anyone had recent experience with Kensington Title out of New York? Most everything I've read about them has been negative; they hired me for a signing tonight, but even though it's been 2 hours, they still haven't sent a confirmation. I stated my fee as $150; she said they pay $200 because they won't provide a FedEx number. But after everything I've read, if they don't pay, not only would I be out the cost of my toner/paper and time/gas, but also I'd have to eat the FedEx fee?
I need a few positive comments on their recent performance or else I will not do this job.
Thanks!

I am a New York Closer, I have dealt with Kensington numerous times, I had no problems with their payments whatsoever. If I were you I would go for it.

But do you have to pay for the shipment of the docs???

I would not ever do business with a company that tells me that I have to supply the shipment back to the TC.

Good payment history or not.

I don't fax back to toll numbers either, they either supply me with a toll free number or they get no faxes.

To OR

Did you have to pay the shipping?
This just makes no sense as Kensington (unlike us) can negotiate volume discount rates for shipping, so why would they 'pay' premium rates? Hmmmm....

Re: To OR

It was a chore to get my money a year ago, imagine now.

Cancel it!!!!

I would still cancel... no out of pocket fees for the notary... the TC has a FedEx or UPS account, they have too... it is required, so if not supplied... I would not take the order. Even in these rough times.

Because if it recinds, you are out the fee regardless, they wont pay you for it.

Drop it in a FedEx box and put the same name for both the sender and receiver. Leave the Account number blank. It will get there.
The reason I suggest FedEx is most loan documents are being returned FedEX and not UPS.

Don't put any information about yourself on the air bill.

Definitely a white flag, and Kensington should throw in the towel

Julie, I have worded for them in the past. They paid me OK. On the most recent assignment they agreed to 250.00 but ended up only paying me 200.00. due to the "lender will only pay this amount" excuse. So I just let it go..did not have the energy for the fight. I was just glad I got most of it and the check didn't bounce Smile Ask them to send you a label. That is what they did for me.

Re: follow up

Kensington never did send a confirmation. I declined this job based on the feedback I got and also the fact that they couldn't even send a confirmation or provide a FedEx number for return shipping. This was just too much negative to even give them a shot.
They emailed me the docs anyway. The package (sent in 4 parts) was a whopping 194 pages. This was a single refi, not a piggyback. 194 pages!
And this company won't pay it's own FedEX bill? No wonder!

Re: follow up

Yes, the last closing I did, the borrower and I had to take a nap in between, too many pages
