PDF dual tray printer help

Ok, how do you folks print PDF files with both legal and letter pages scanned in? I can't get my printer to cooperate. It'll just print on whatever tray it was last set out instead of doing the legal on legal and the letter on letter. Ugh technology!

select the box on your printer screen that says print by size of document, that way if the document is letter it will print on letter, if legal will print on legal.

You will also need to change the setting on this screen for the paper source to automatic.

Phillip - are you using

Adobe Reader or do you have the full version of Adobe?

Re: Phillip - are you using

I have Adobe 8.0, but that does not have anything to do with what I am talking about. When you tell the document to print, you get the printer window that pops up that should show your printer listed in the top... close to the bottom you will see a box that will need to be checked, that states print using PDF size... if you check this box and then tell the printer what paper source (at the top of the printer screen) that you want it to do auto select, the documents will print on the correct paper size.

Re: Phillip - are you using

The reader version I was using (5) did not have that option (printing the way the PDF file was). So I had to upgrade to 8.

Maddie, I don't know what everyone else does, but another member with a lot of experience told me to just use legal for everything. That is what I will be doing from now on. Good luck!

on your print screen you should have a check box that says "Choose paper source by pdf page size". it will be without the quotes though.

What version of Acrobat Reader are you using? I have 5.0 and do not see that option... maybe an upgrade is in order?

Does not have anything to do with your reader... it is on your printer screen that pops up when you tell it to print.

But I have Adobe 8.0, just FYI.

I would not suggest to print everything on legal, if the title/mortgage company wanted it all on legal it would be scanned that way.

This is not the professional way to handle this situation, merely correcting your printing source would be the correct avenue.

And this comes from a SA with several years experience.

Re: First you have to "tell" your printer what size paper is

in each tray -- this is done through printer setup. Have you read your printer manual?

Hardware setup procedure

Don't know what kind of printer you have, but the common setup is in "Control Panel" under "Printer Properties". This is where you tell the computer your printer have that addt'l tray option to select from.

Re: Hardware setup procedure

I have an HP Laser Jet 1300.
I set it up so it knows there are two trays now. First is letter, 2nd is legal.
I open up the PDF in version 8.
Tell it to print.
Clicked "choose paper source by PDF page size"
Under printer properties, under paper options source is set as "automatically select"

Go to print and it still prints either all letter or all legal depending on what is under advanced paper output (letter or legal).

What am I missing?

Re: Hardware setup procedure

Reboot your system, now that you have it all set, and turn the printer off as part of the reboot. That will sometimes help.
