Poll: your farthest distance for a closing
I just got back from a closing in Trinidad, CO. Distance: 145 miles.
That's my farthest distance so far. After the closing I drove into New Mexico. The border was just 6 miles away from where the borrowers lived.
It would be interesting to see what everyone else's farthest distance is. I'm sure there are people who have gone farther than that.

I did a closing about 155 miles away and I get $300 for it. It took me 8 hours round trip including the time I spent in the borrowers house. It was Sat. and I had no other signings.

I wouldn't drive more than 10 minutes. Any longer and I probably couldn't get there - all the snow.

A few years ago I went down to Carpenter, Wy for a piggy-back closing. It is about 40 miles east of Cheyenne. One way was 218 miles. About 435 miles R/T!
To make trips down to Cheyenne from here (and points in between) is 365 miles R/T. Not unheard of at all. But I decline in winter to be sure.

Back in 2001 I made a trip that I vowed never to repeat again. I was actually three closings in one day spread out between three different cities.
I left Casper for my first closing in Gillette - 137 miles away up north. I left Gillette for my second in Sheridan - 112 miles from Gillette headed west. I left Sheridan for my last closing in Rawlins - 215 miles south. Rawlins to home agin was 125 miles northeast.
I left home at 6AM and got back home at 12:15 that night; logging just a hair under 600 miles. I was dumb and never will that happen again. But, it sure has made for a good story over the years.

TRG, I hope your charged a lot more than 600.00 dollars. Because just in mileage it is 600 dollars. When I m asked to drop packages after signing to title or escrow I calculate at $1/Mile.

Hi Brenda, The area TRG travel is just outstanding. I saw this area working for DOD in 1963, '64, '65 My personal longest was a little more than 500 miles to Childress Tx from Weatherford on a Sat in 2003 and the fee was $450. As you know, many of us in Texas travel 100 to 120 miles one way for signings.

Re: TRG - I hardly know what to say about that!
Back in those days too we more often than not got our docs overnight and had them in hand the day before. None of this last minute stuff we have today.
I could pull up my records, but I probably wouldn't like to be reminded of the low fee I got for that day's work.
If we travel out of town here, almost everything is at least 100 miles away. Old railroad stops where towns sprang up. Rural West.

45 minutes for an 18 mile distance. Arrived in daylight and left at night, pitch black in the middle no where. Sometimes it's not the distance but the tretcherous drive that I'll not forget nor repeat...unless they make it worth my time

254 miles one-way. From Duluth, Mn to North of Thief River Falls, MN. Charged $1,000. That was my farthest closing. The most miles I put on in one day was almost 600. 14 closing, started at 5 am, didn't get home until 2:30 am, broke the sped limit more than a few time. I regularily do closings that are 125+ miles each way. That's Northern MN for ya.

About 60 miles one way to Ventura through the heart of Los Angeles (including rush hour). Took around 3 hours each way (not counting stopping to visit with my aunt on the way back. ) That was more than five years ago when I was still pretty new, for a LO who has been a reliable client ever since. I will NEVER do it again, though! I'm in a pretty populated area, so it just doesn't make sense for me.

Well, since I live on a Hawaiian Island, I fly to a couple of the other islands when necessary so it is about 100 miles possibly one way. I charge for the flight and time. I usually have to stay there for most of the day until another plane comes back to get me. These are small 9 seater planes for the small islands I go to. I usually charge around $400 for it, but would probably charge more now due to plane fare increases. I have not done one in many months..usually cost prohibitive. There are no mobile notaries on one of the islands so sometimes it is the only option. I like flying there. Kinda fun. I also have driven to Hana, which is about 60 miles away, but on a world renowned curvy road. It takes about 3 hours to drive one way. I don't like doing those. Would rather fly to another island. That road is a lot of work to drive...although it is very beautiful..goes into the rain forest area. It is just such a lonnnnggg drive and with tourists stopping all the time it takes forever. hehe.

Ahhhh...... I remember that drive from many years ago. I recommend everyone try it at least once, but I can imagine it being a challenge for a work appointment! What I most remember is that we stopped at an arboretum half way there, but only lasted about 15 minutes before we ended up high-tailing it back to the car to escape the man(or woman)-eating mosquitos. I had more than 40 bites after just a few minutes. [Clearly not properly prepared!!] But what magnificent vistas!! I just loved Maui!
