That's why I just got a blackberry. I'm not as "tethered" to my computer now. I get the "ding" on the blackberry.

I was thinking the same thing about my iPhone. I get a "ding" and I know that I have mail.

My computer used to 'ding'

Now it talks to me nicely, saying "You've got mail!"

If you don't have e-mail on your phone but you do have texting capabilities, you can have your e-mails forwarded to your phone as text messages. When you receive a text message, your phone will make an "alert" sound. As MW/VA said, it definitely frees you up from the computer!
