Techie help needed, ideas or suggestions?

I give up!
My laptop will not recognize ANY device I have at the only USB hub it has.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Windows tells me that everything is working properly, and I have updated drivers...
still, nada.
It started last week, with the main printer. I reinstalled the driver, and it worked fine until
today....I can't print anything, or use my magic jack.

Uh-oh, this does not sound good. I am no help and I'm sure someone here will help you out.
After cussing it out, I'm done. Hope it gets better.

Did you install any software, hardware or update

any drivers right before this happened?

I never trusted the magic jack and I never installed the MJ in my business pc, it's on the kids pc. It's been weeks since I haven't used it, and I m not renewing. I think if you uninstall the MJ you will be ok.

You can try going to a restore point when you can remember your computer was still working (all programs, accessories, system tools). Also you could try scanning for spyware and viruses. I have seen spyware cause the issues you describe. You should be able to fix it without reloading Windows.

She's going to the doctor.

Did everything except remove windows (I don't have the disk to reinstall), and nothing is working. I keep getting the message that the USB device is not recognized.

Before you pay anyone .......

Before you pay anyone, see if the "disks" arent stored on another partition of your hard drive. Many computers, especially Dell have another partition on your hard drive that contain the "Restore computer to factory condition" or some name that lets you know this is it. To find out, click on "Computer" and see what comes up. If you get something that looks like a second hard drove of 4-8 gb, that's it. Open it and run the command to get it going. I hope you have your files you want to keep backed up.

To everyone else that buys a new computer and did not get any restore disks with it, look at the quick setup folder or the manual itself. There will probably be a function to create your own restore disks. Do that first.

Good Luck.

Re: Before you pay anyone .......Just went three rounds

with Dell to get actual disks for my computer in case my hard drive goes down.

I got a BSOD the other day and re-installed from the hard drive.

Finally convinced them to send out the back up disks.

Re: Before you pay anyone .......Just went three rounds

I just bought a new Dell laptop for my daughter and it came with both the partition on the hard drive and restore disks. Maybe enough people have complained.

What I've had to do in the past is to go into Device Manager and delete the root hub, then reboot. Windows realizes at that point that the USB port is there, and automatically reinstalls the root hub for it.

I think the USB hub is broken

It is all wiggly.

BTW, this IS a Dell.
