HL-5240 Brother printer

My HL-5240 Brother printer is putting black marks on the right side of the page all the way to the end of the page. Is there a way to repair this?

You need a new drum and a can of compressed air. I've had this happen also.

See Msg #371947 and resulting thread

Maybe drum; maybe bad cartridge;

Also, search "brother printer" here - many have discussed this problem before...

Good Luck.

I'm pretty sure it's not the toner.

Could be the drum or a bad cart., but try this first.

Clean the corona wire at the back of the drum by sliding it back & forth about 30 times. BTW, this should be done every time you change carts. I wish I had known that a long time ago. It saves having the replace the drum so often. Good luck. :-)

if toner has gradually spilled out, it can accumulate at the bottom and can cause sporatic black marks.

Adding to what Art posted ...

Before you replace anything, take it apart and clean it. Blow it out with compressed air if you can. If you don't have a compressor, then reverse the hose on your vacuum cleaner. You will be surprised how much toner collects in the machine. I blow mine out in my driveway with compressed air each time I change the or refill the toner cartridge. Some of the toner cartridges sometimes leak, especially if you refill your own like I do. You may find out that will fix it.

Use something to cover your nose and mouth - toner is very light and can cause respiratory damage.

Mine did that too. took the drum and the toner out and wiped them both off. Took care of the problem.
