My issue with free sites to build a web page is the unwanted advertising and limitation on webspace allowed. I prefered to pay for my own domain name and webspace to "do it my way."

Free web sites make it appear that you are not serious about your business. A separate domain name is more professional. You don't need to spend a lot of money. Take a look at GoDaddy.com. They have website choices for all budgets. WebSite Tonight is their starter website.

It will give you basic features for free an you can upgrade to paid if you like there services.
I used it temporarily for a non-profit when their site went down.
