"Every day's a great day!"

I wondered what to expect when I met my first borrower today. He had two prosthetic arms (and two prosthetic legs). He escorted me to his dining room table, placed his pen and signed (very quickly, I might add) with the best penmanship I've seen in a very long time! I wished him a good day when I left, he wished me the same, and said, "Every day's a great day!"

Sorry for reposting this under a different subject line. I had received a message that "Another first" had been used before, so I changed it before realizing my previous one had posted. Anyway, I guess it was worth repeating. BTW his photo ID was a driver's license.

If you want the truth, you shouldn't have wondered anything. He doesn't think of himself a handicapped and either should you when you met him. God bless him he is doing so well after whatever may have happened to him.
Many abled signers cannot write a legible signature even when asked to do so. Never judge or (nicer word) wonder about anyone. Learned that years ago Smile

Yikes! Chastised for sharing a heartwarming experience! I wasn't judging his disability or ability. Or insinuating I had any issue. My "wondering" was that in over 25 years of closings, I had never had met a borrower with such dis "abilities", and I wanted to be sure that he felt very comfortable with me, which he did. It was a great closing. He's refinancing two other properties and wants me to handle the closings.

I was humbled by this, too. And I didn't get the impression that OP had "an issue" with what could have been problematic. The guy was obviously an "old pro" with a very positive attitude - and a great sense of who he is (he's not the disability). Recall Aaron Ralston, the rock climber.

I say I was humbled because today was one of my absolute worst days as a notary; fortunately my signers were both very nice - but the latter took up half my day. She was a last minute I agreed to in a nearby county to my 1st appt. Not sure what happened before I became involved, but I was warned that bo was not a happy camper. Turns out, the SS scheduled the signing for 1 hour after I got the call (and I had just finished the earlier one). I must not have heard her correctly, because I would never had agreed with such short notice. Don't they know we have to print AND drive to the people!

Well, it was a nightmare and a half, because somehow the online web portal "erased" the docs and wanted me to access through SwiftSend which I had never used. Nothing, and I mean nothing was going right so we had to reschedule a 2nd time. Borrower was adamant that she HAD to close Today before 5 pm. Well, I finally overcame the tech issues (and really appreciated the support I got at the office store, 'cause there would have been no way I could have gone back home and made it to her office in rush hour).

I was tired and miserable - and upset that SS kept "passing the buck": It's a 3rd party vendor, we can't help with that, let me transfer you to dept x, why didn't loan close as scheduled (oh right, I just said I couldn't access docs (seriously?), and on and on . . .

Borrower was so appreciative and wasn't that difficult after all especially thru all the phone calls and me trying to update her on my "progress." Lender was also happy I saved his "bacon."

Sorry for the vent (long-winded); my OWN attention span isn't this Long!

What humbled me in my forlorn state? A story on my car radio while "parked" on highway at 6 pm: It was the woman who was brutally burned with lye by her ex and she was relating how grateful she was to have received a face transplant after being burned unrecognizably over 80% of her body. I felt ashamed of my "irritation" at the day's events.

Even with the 43 pages of faxbacks when I got home, really it all worked out as well as it could under the circumstances. Nothing really important lost - except Time.

But I will think TWICE before ever accepting a last minute signing on the road.

Geez! What a bunch of nitpickers!

Looks like we need to get a crew together, visit their homes, and shove their beds up against the wall. That way they can't get up on the wrong side of the bed.

Thanks for sharing. If this posted twice, I missed the first one, so I'm surely grateful for the second time around.

Thanks, I needed that! I'm new to this forum (but been a closer for over 25 years). I was beating myself up for even trying to share my heartwarming, inspirational story.

This is my first reading, and wouldn't have cared if second

or even third. These are the stories that make us realize we don't have it so tough after all; that we have a lot to be grateful for and thankful for not having to endure such as these with their uplifting testaments to the human will.

I marvel at these folks and never tire of hearing of the couragous individuals amongst us.

Well said - and I couldn't agree more! We all need a bit of attitude (and gratitude) adjustment from time to time. Wink

Don't give up on us! I loved your story! I didn't mind reading it twice, I can't tell you how much I did.

I caught a glimpse of a video of some soldiers back from Afghanistan with prosthetic limbs who went to the Boston hospital where folks were emerging from their amputations, helping them through the gripping realization they'd lost both legs, a foot, arm(s), one guy said, you're still here, it's a different scenery now. You're all right, you're even better.

I love stories like this. The human spirit is amazing. The ability to survive travesty and what seems like the end of the world can be overcome, especially with the support of family and friends.
