That is how the local news described CA flooding in Santa Barbara County. The other fire areas in CA were also affected.
13 are now confirmed dead and they expect the number to climb. Many more injured. Many were either airlifted out or rescued by military trucks that could navigate the mud.
Highway 101 just got hit by more flood water that was still on it's way down so no idea when it will open.
This was a very short window of heavy wind and rain from about 3am to 6am and the mud, rocks and debris started flowing almost immediately. The fire itself lasted over a month and only two people lost their lives.
Areas like La Conchita, a small coastal community, have a history of sitting still and looking safe, but with very loose and wet hills can in minutes landslide down and swallow homes whole. They are hydro-seeding it to hopefully get some roots down.
