need help - EIN Number
Posted by Roadie_MD at 12/27/2013 2:39:00 PM
I have had an EIN for years. I had a person from a title company question the W9 that I provided saying that the number I put on it was not recognized by the IRS and she wants me to provide my SS#. Well obviously I don't want to give out my SS# which is why I have an EIN. I have literally never had anyone question it. She said since the W9 is filled out with my name and marked 'sole proprietor' I have to give them my number or they can get fined. Is there any way I can verify the number?

Backdating story of the week
Posted by Roadie_MD at 12/16/2013 9:05:00 AM
I did a signing last week and got a call the next day from title saying that an affidavit was missing from the package. he told me what it was and I remember getting it signed, but I agree to get it resigned over the weekend on my dime just to be a nice person. I scan it over to him today, and he says, 'oh no, it needs to be dated for the 12th!' and I said I am not going to be able to backdate a notarized document. Well this guy proceeds to argue with me about how it was my mistake and everything needs to have the same date or it won't record...etc, etc. I told him it shouldn't matter what the date is and that possibly the document was lost on his end because both the borrower and I distinctly remember signing it (he asked me a question about it). Now I am upset and I feel like I may have lost a customer over it. This is a very reputable title company that really should know better. I am thinking of calling a supervisor.

Question - scanning documents
Posted by Roadie_MD at 8/26/2013 8:56:00 AM
I don't consider myself very tech savvy--but I was able to scan signed docs to email to the title company. Problem is the file is too large to send by email--any way to compress the file so that it's small enough to send. We're talking over 50 pages so the file is over 130 MB.

thanks for any advice you can offer!

missing document - what would you do?
Posted by Roadie_MD at 8/22/2013 4:43:00 PM
I was contacted yesterday from title saying an affidavit was missing from a signing package I did a few days ago. This doc was included in the e-docs they sent me and I have it written in my journal, so at this point I am 99.9% sure that it went back. Well they tell me it's not there and they're kind of being jerks about it, so I tell them I will go back out as a professional courtesy because I value our business relationship. I figure I will just suck it up, but I'm a little miffed because they didn't even thank me. They pay better than average and quickly but I only do a few a year from them.

So I get out to the borrowers' house and they just received their bound package of signed documents from the title company. Of course I took a look through, and--lo and behold--inside is the signed doc they said was missing. So my question is, do you think there is anything wrong with sending them an invoice for my trip fee?

Finally got paid after 60+ days of bugging the crap out of these people. They wanted me to sign up with them, I said no way. So many things put me off about this company. Never Again!
