Who's protecting our information?
Posted by PJM/MI at 11/12/2013 8:29:00 AM
Seems everybody & their brother is asking for a BGC and we merrily submit it and hand it over. WHO is protecting our "sensitive information? We've sent them a W-9, and some companies request a copy of our drivers license. And what about direct deposit? We've just sent our bank acct #.
It's SO important we protect the borrowers & all of their sensitive information, who is protecting US?
A few yrs back, I was getting payments from a company direct deposit. The gal who was submitting my deposits got fired and took along with her MY bank account info. Imagine my horror when the bank informed me I was overdrawn $600.00! It took 90 days to clear it all up.
If a company closes up shop, is my information destroyed? Hmmm...

Complying with the new regulatoins

If you worked for a company and your boss came to you and told you that you had to jump thru some more hoops, would you do it or walk out the door? If you walk out the door, there is someone else who will gladly jump thru the hoops. No matter how stupid those hoops may seem.

Tsk, tsk.. BAD notary!
Posted by PJM/MI at 9/21/2013 6:16:00 AM
Completed a closing last night for a gentleman who stated that the closing had been scheduled for last Friday. Borrower waited and waited for notary to show up. 1/2 hr after scheduled time, notary called the bo & informed him that there were issues with the documents & docs showed bo was married. BO told notary that no, he was NOT married. Notary tells bo "I'll call you right back". 2 hrs later, no call from notary. BO calls & calls AND calls notary, who never answered his phone nor returned any messages.
Borrower calls his LO the next day & LO informs him the docs sent to the notary do NOT show BO as married. LO calls title, ditto from title..no spouse on docs.
So thank you BAD notary as I did the closing. And SHAME on you for LYING!!

Dual State Commission?
Posted by PJM/MI at 9/6/2013 6:23:00 AM
I just found out that two commissioned notaries in Michigan also hold a commission in a neighboring state. I was under the impression that in Michigan, you CANNOT hold another commission in another state. Am I right or wrong?

Our Industry..Slow Down in Work
Posted by PJM/MI at 9/4/2013 5:01:00 AM
There are several posts on NotRot from people wondering WHY their phone isn't ringing, WHY the slow down in work. Yes, summer is usually slower, but the reason for the slowdown in closings is because of the interest rates. It has been all over the news for quite sometime.
Having been in this industry for several years, I find it behooves me to keep up with this industry and there are several good websites I read daily. My personal feelings are if I am going to work in this industry, I'd better know what is going on in it.
My sister closed on a re-fi, and the notary who closed it had 6 yrs. experience. She told my sister that she couldn't figure out why her business had slowed down so much. 6 yrs and she didn't know why. (Where upon my sister told her about interest rates).
Wells-Fargo laid of a large number of loan officers, BofA sold tons of loans. Harp3 is still in the pipeline.
This is the information age, and the box (computer) in front of us is an excellent tool to keep up with industry news.

Before you bash or talk trash
Posted by PJM/MI at 8/24/2013 6:56:00 AM
Many of the title agencies and signing services READ our posts. I once posted on here about a certain title company and within 1/2 hr, they called me. So be careful what you post and who you trash.

Raising interest rates=LESS work
Posted by PJM/MI at 7/11/2013 6:19:00 AM
Re-fi applications are down to a 2 yr. low. For us "oldsters", we've ridden this wave before. For the newbies: if you're only doing closings, best to start looking for other work to supplement your income.
