| Truth about protecting consumer information Posted by NC_Closer at 12/10/2013 8:58:00 AM | Seems all this hoopla stems from the new/old regulations over protecting consumers. Truth of the matter is we can be background checked and certified to death yet there has been zero instruction to us on how to properly protect consumer information. And even better there is no one out there who will supervise our procedures. It would be unreasonable to expect us to have the same secure facilities and computer equipment as a multi billion dollar bank. I have a cell phone, an Ipad and a home computer which call access my email. While they are all password protected is that really enough? And what about the people in our daily lives who enter our home or at our work. Many notaries access their documents from a work computer. Is anyone going to background check them?
If the lenders want to truly comply and safeguard their client's information then they should overnight the package directly to the borrower. All we should be provided with is the customer contact info and the tracking number. After the closing is completed we should be REQUIRED to seal the package in front of the borrowers (so no fax backs folks) and the borrower should have the option of allowing us to drop the package or they can. A form is completed in duplicate stating we were all present, the closing was completed, who took control of the seal package and the tracking number.
Seems like a very simple solution. And it puts the responsibility of protection where it belongs...with the Lender! |

| NNA BG Certificate not sufficient...full report required Posted by NC_Closer at 12/4/2013 9:45:00 PM | So I'm told by Mortgage Connect. I politely declined to provide the full report. What's the point of the Cert?? I can't even remember the last time I even received a call from them. This nonsense is getting old.

| Newbies are being advised to accept $50 fees Posted by NC_Closer at 10/25/2013 10:09:00 AM | Just surfing the net and found this website N3 Notary They are full of advice on starting your own notary business. Some good, some awful. They even have a section under their blog addressing the "angry notary" who posts negative comments and promptly gets removed from their data base.
Here is one of their suggestions:
5. Know your value
Don’t tell a company that your fee is $125 if they offer you $50, you’re still just getting your feet wet. Know your value and be happy that as a newbie mobile notary you’re being paid $50 to gain that valuable experience that will pay off for you in the future. Now is the time to build experience and a client base. |

| MIC is shutting down Posted by NC_Closer at 10/18/2013 11:16:00 AM | While I know they were hit with a hefty fine earlier this year I just read this article that they are no longer writing new loans and are virtually shutting down. They article cites new Dodd-Frank regulations that went into effect two days ago. Any opinions on how the new regulations will affect the refi business overall?

| Signing Trac $60 Posted by NC_Closer at 7/23/2013 1:06:00 PM | I keep getting emails for these $60 closings. Occasionally I will reply with a counter offer but am responded with "another agent in your area has accepted this assignment..."
So to those taking these assignments for $60, you're probably not even covering your NC Notary fee of $5 per signature!

| Pet Peeve of the day...payment held hostage Posted by NC_Closer at 7/20/2013 9:53:00 AM | I completed a signing a couple of weeks ago for a company who calls once a year at best. The closing was very last minute and scheduled for less than one hour from the time they called me. Today I receive an email requesting my W9, E&O, Background, copy of Notary Certificate and to complete their vendor package. I'm told my payment will not be issued until all this info is returned.
I'm sure their hiring party requires the above information on their agents prior to sending out docs. However I find it interesting these company will break their own policies when it suits them. |

| Missing FEDEX DropBox Update Posted by NC_Closer at 7/5/2013 6:22:00 PM | Seems the Fedex Box was relocated to Pineville, NC (suburb of Charlotte) which is about 90 miles away and the packages are in route as of today at 6:15. I only know this because I have routinely been checking the tracking information. Of course FEDEX has not bothered to return any of my 7 messages or contact me in any way.
Thousands of packages dropped in UPS/Fedex drop boxes over the years and only a handful have gone missing temporarily but none permanently. They always show up...eventually.

| Fedex didn't just lose the pkg.. they lost the DROPBOX! Posted by NC_Closer at 7/3/2013 4:55:00 PM | So I get a call from a title company this morning looking for a package. I dropped it on Monday so should be there today. Trace is put on the package. I get a call from another title company stating the same. I call FEDEX to inquire if the box had been serviced. Their system doesn't show a box in that location. (Only 1 box in my zipcode). That's just crazy...I've used that box for 7 years! So, I drive to the location and the box is gone. I've been on the phone all day with 5 different people and still no one can tell me where that box is. Fedex Box Graveyard? Refurbishing station? Another office park?
Nutshell, FEDEX moved the box and failed to empty it and no one seems to know where it is.
Looks like I have two closings to resign on Friday. |
