If the information you've received is in deed true, then now would probably be a good time to make decisions with respect to membership. Certainly, in my view, this would be a gross conflict of interest. It gives the appearance of "how to start a business," opposed to "support of Notary's Public." Sounds like the onset of a financial peridigm shift. As you've stated the NNA exists to support the Notary Public with resources, education, and fellowship. Not engage in the business of turning out agencies. Beware, they will have some entity to give a good spill as to how beneficial it will be to the community as a whole, but I'm not buying into it.
Remember, if the Notary leaves the organization, they won't have an organization. Because you must be a "Notary" to be hired as a "Signing Agent" or else you'll have to take a Notary with you to the signing! Now what would be the benefit in that? My point is, they (the NNA) should be reminded to remain as they are, and not attempt to be creative for the purpose of broading their financial horizons. It sounds as if they're trying to parallel the National Association of Mortgage Brokers or others. But they've got it twisted.
I would support a petition to cease and desist!
