That was a very "stupid" reply....It's good that you didn't state who your are and where you are from since you didn't want everyone to know how dumb you are.
If someone asks for help, you "guys" let's try and help them....we might need it ourselves sometime.

A notary chided:

If someone is asking for my help in understanding a term, the least they can do, to the extent that it is in their power, is to correctly convey the term. I assume, as did the earlier poster, that the inquiry pertained to an "accommodation" signing, not an "acomadation" signing, though I can't be sure. The problem could easily have been resolved by simply using a spell checker, or referring to the document in which he first encountered the term.

I'd also like to point out that you called another participant in this forum"dumb," characterized his response as "stupid," and jumped on him for posting anonymously -- and did all that anonymously yourself. You may want to temper you responses a bit in the future. And you may want to identify yourself when doing so: It certainly adds weight and credibility to your postings.

Although I am sure your intentions were meant well. I must say that clarification of the word was needed. I am sure you know as well as the rest of us that each company is different and unique in their own way and each company will have some sort of variance with their terminology. As for that person being "stupid" it was a very legitimate question. Woe be unto someone as yourself to give the wrong answer due to lack of clarification...I guess at that point someone could begin calling names. Although I have not been with this particular site very long I must say I have found it most helpful, and yes there are questions that need asked not just for the person needing the answer that day, but for newbies or oldies that have a new situation. I can assure you there is no "stupid" questions, and if you think there is please keep it to yourself. We are all here for the same reason and that is notary support. Be helpful not hurtful!

It is just a signing, plain and simple. I guess they are trying to infer that you will accomodate the borrower and sign at his or her convenience.

I've seen a lot worse spelling that I really had to use my imagination to determine what I was reading -- however, with very little imagination at all, I don't think it's that difficult to decipher a-com-a-da-tion. JMO

It really is poor form to spew invective anonymously. If you're going to engage in name calling, at least you should have enough courage to identify yourself.

I am sorry if you felt I replied in a sarcastic way. I was only trying to help. An accomodation signing is just a signing at least to my knowledge . . someone may correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry, Notary, CA. Whatever transgression you might have committed, it wasn't worth all the grief you're getting now.

In answer to your question, I personally don't know what a signing company would term an "accommodation" signing. Apparently, it is a closing done for the convenience of someone else, not the closer -- but so are all our closings. I have not previously encountered the term in this context.

Later tonight, however, you can probably expect PAW to check in to see how we lesser mortals are doing. If you genuflect thrice in his direction (which is Florida, otherwise known as "The Big Blowhard" [that's Florida, not PAW], and sometimes answering to "The Hung Chad" [no, I'm not going to pursue that adjective with relationship to PAW]), he may well deign to give you an answer. If HE can't answer it, you're own you own, buddy. It was PAW who suggested to Solomon the answer to the question involving two mothers and a baby. It's been said that Encyclopaedia Britannica is no more than a partial transcription of PAW's fertile mind. He uses the rest of it to think up one-liners to hit on chicks in bars.

it doesn't look like anyone answered your question. it is what we do, a signing, a witness only signing/closing, whatever term they decide to use. One company calls it 'signature collection'.

Accommodation signing aka witness closing aka witness signing aka signing... all the same thing. In fact, when I worked in Phoenix for a very large title company... we actually had an "Accommodation Department". These people were signers that traveled branch to branch to administer "accommodation signings". I hope this helps... as it seems this post got somewhat disjointed.

The accommodation signings I have done have been for World Savings. I'm contacted by a World Savings office anywhere and asked to meet signers at the local World Savings Location where an office is provided for the signing. Haven't heard the term from any others.

Somewhere in the recesses of my mind- which has been laughing so hard- reading all these "posts"- -believe it was when I was going for CSA- or something really important -- The writer suggested a marketing technique- that a S/A could contact Lawyers Offices that handle mainly Real Estate Closings- usually at months end, when their closers are so busy-- people wanting in their new/old homes--- and even Banks (per se")-- and then they get requests from some of their " good- steady customers" to do ".a....comode" closing- (how' d ya spell it?) and it's always at their busiest time- so John or Jane Q. Public Notary can go to their office and sit all day- and charge $50 per "a....comode' closing to help relieve the overload. Thats the only LOGICAL explanation I can make of it. Makes scents to me!
