Problem Printing!!!

I accepted an eDOCs signing from a new lender and when I downloaded their software my printer went crazy. It printed half of the docs before I received a message indicating it was unable to recognize the PCL???? Before I learned about this discussion board I went out and purchased the HP 1012 LaserJet printer for $199.00. Apparently this printer is not strong enough to handle some print software. From the messages I have seen here everyone is recommending the HP1300. Since my HP1012 is only 3 months old I would hate to just discard it. Does anyone know of enhancements or some other remedy to make my printer compatable, or should I be heading out to Circuit City for the HP1300?

Mimi

Unfortunately, there's nothing that you can do for the 1012 (that I know of) to upgrade it and make is compatible. I hope this wasn't due to Victoria Ring's recommendation in her newsletter that prompted you to purchase that model. If so, please let her know you're out $200 because of her ineptness.

The "minimum" HP printer would be the 1300 and will serve you well. Sorry I don't have any better news.

I have that printer and I have never had a problem printing anything. If you are trying to print docs of of VistaPrint, you need to download the correct drivers. and then there is a choice in the printer box as to which drivers to use adn you chose windows drivers and problem solved. I do lots of edocs including the dreaded Ameriquest documents and I havent had any problems.

There are certain programs out there that do not give you the chance to select "Windows" printing. It looks for a PCL compliant printer and prints directly to it. An HP LJ 1012 does not support PCL5 or 6 which is need for those versions.

Fran874,

I have downloaded docs for a number of companies and never had a problem. The encryption software that caused the problem was from DecisionOne.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I guess I'll stick it out with the 1012 just a little longer. If I start getting numerous signing opportunties from DecisionOne I'll buy the 1300.

I did one edoc from DecisionOne where I have to go to a site called Guardian something to download print software to be able to print their doc.pcl file. I have a Dell 1700.

Do a search for printer PCL in Google, don't remember but I think there is a site that shows you how to rewrite your printer PCL.

I have a question? I own a HP Laserjet 5M, will that printer be good enough for me to receive e-docs???

Yes, the 5M supports PCL 6. Make sure you have the latest drivers for the printer, and you should be all set.

If anyone has that link, please post it. I find that interesting because I looked for that type of info and could not find it.

This is what I have to be able to download their files without being directed by an email for docs:

Create an account (required to download utility) - https://www.gmd.com/Register/self-register-step-one.asp?skinset=gmd&session_id=

Printer and viewer utilities can be downloaded after logging on and selecting the download menu item.
