Ok! Let me say this!!!

There is nothing wrong with accepting a $50 signing if it is in your own back yard. (although my fee is higher!)

And as it was a DOT only and not a full loan package I would have only charges my state's authorized charges ($10) plus a reasonable travel fee.

Just as an aside, I see messages on the boards from signing agents who ask what they should charge for just going out with one document to be signed and notarized. Sometimes it is because a company has called them to go get a medical affidavit signed. In these cases you can really only charge your state's allowable charge plus reasonable travel.
Sometimes they are not worth doing, but I do them if it is convenient for me.

When I take a medical affidavit signing, I quote $30.00 trip/convenience fee plus $6.00 over one per notarization which is the amount allowed by the state. If I travel, I use 50 cents, or thereabouts, per RT mile.

I can always drop the fee I invoice. The reason I do this is because sometimes they want me to take them to the courier box if pre-arranged with the medical custodian. The second thing I consider is that a Doc's office or pharmacy can cause a wait.

For instance, I have had doctors that did not want to appear before me and signed the affidavit before I got there then left for the day even though I told them ahead of time what to expect. That requires a second trip which I do not charge for.

On the other hand, if I have two notarizations/pickups in the same vicinity, I drop the fee by $5-$10 depending on the amount of travel charged on each and invoice that with a note to that effect.

These folks are usually very prompt in payment (like mailing the check that day) and the schedule is more flexible so I do not mind taking the assignments for less.

On loan related docs, signature gatherings, or just one signature needed on a DOT type of thing, I will not set an appointment for less than $50.00. $50 is the minimum to get a no-change time and appointment on my schedule.

Lawrence,

I can only wish that I get a few calls for a DOT signing for $50. it would be a refreshing treat.. LOL I do have a question for you , i noticed on your website there are a few sponsored ads or banners ....when researching them I noticed quite a few companies wanting to pay for placing them onto you site....... So do they? LOL.... Do you make any $$$ from having the ads on your site......or is it more hype then reality ???

Have A Great Afternoon,

I am glad that I don't get calls for $50 signings any more. I think they got tired of asking me and now they just don't call. I do have one stray call every now and then but I will only go 10 miles round trip for that, that's just the way it is. I did a purchase closing yesterday, took me 4 hours, the docs were late, the borrowers were mad and the docs ended up being wrong and some things had to be faxed to me to correct the problems. She got an invoice for $150 for that headache.
Have a great day guys.
Loretta

Yes Anthony it pays, but not what you might think. I get around $30.00 a month (depending on the hits) This money I donate to my niece's animal welfare fund.

Am I missing something here? Seems like the $50-$65.-$75-$80.-$100 fees-being discussed -are what? Are they including E-Doc downloading and printing two sets? Or are they being offered- flat out fee with no other compensations attached.. I have one S/S that pays $80.- but nothing for downloading and printing E-Docs- So simple math tells me $80 less $35 (for downloading E-Docs and printing 2 sets of 100 pages =200 pages) comes to $55. And if a company says we pay $100- if we accept that as flat fee- then that is really only $65. But if Docs are O/N and no copies run- then $65, $75. $80. or $100 is REALLY FINE! I've done a couple of the $80 ones- and worked my tail off- w/o additional money for printing docs etc.- Standing by- from 10am when I accepted the job- then receiving some S/S info downloaded at 1:30 pm- and was told by 3pm the Docs were expected from Title Company- they arrived at 5:30pm- then Download and copiied 2 sets, and had to review them- and S/S instructions etc.
of what they insisted upon or $25 will be deducted- or $20 for that will be deducted- now the appt. is for 6 pm-- of course I called and made it for 7pm- but it went til 10 pm- and then spent til 1am- running copies off all the various Docs S/S wanted- including all notorized pages-to be faxed back-(being sure docs all kept in order), and then Saturday morning was told Package had to be brought down to Fed-Ex (10 miles away- gave me place they had to be brought in to- or more money would be deducted etc . So guys--$80 "is or is not what it seems to be-!" That's why I'm asking the Question- what are we talking about--? Apples or oranges or???? From 10 am- to 1 am- thats 13 hours tied up- then say another hour Sat. to go to Fed-Ex office--(when I could have gone to Andy's Garage Sale- love em Andy!) but the Saga goes on-- had to return on Monday because Title Company messed up the Deed- but S/S said " I did not have non-obligatory husband sign the Mortgage- because we are a Homestead State- and the S/S instructions were that his had to be included"--but Title Co. did not put husbands typed name on Doc., and I"m not to change or alter docs, per se"- or play "Philadelphia Lawyer",and borrowers were on phone about issues several times with the N.E .Title Co. because things were not correct as to what they all had agreed. Iwent "no charge"- I know we are Homestead State- so I should have told Title Company it was not there when clients were on phone- one of the times- (but it didn"t cross my mind) sitting surrounded by boxes- borrowers standing- no room to sit- babies crying- dogs barking wanting to come in- telehones ringing for husbands busness- then he"s telling me what that was all about- and their "witness" neighbor went to bed- and had to be awakened- so he could come sign- it all started on Friday the 13th. Again- "what means $50-65- 80 "? I know in football it says "HIKE"! Thankyou for "Listening to the" REST OF THE STORY" HEY?

I can relate to "Happy", had a couple of those myself. Personally, I don't go less than $50 for a signing. More $$ usually also means more headaches, for the most part.

No offense, but I really can't agree that more $$ usually also means more headaches. I have had $75 headaches and $150 headaches. It is a chance we take with every closing. I usually like to call the borrower before I go to a closing (or at least on my way there) and go over their interest rate, their loan amount, what, if anything, the bank is paying off, when their first payment is due and if it is an adjustable rate and if so, how long the adjustable rate is for along with any info if there is a pre-payment penalty. With this information cleared, I have no problems at the closing. I think anyone (ss) that pays $50 for a closing is doing an injustice to the signing agent.
