hits on the profile

I've gotten 85 hits on my profile but only 2 calls. Should I be concerned with my profile or pricing (feel free to review my profile)? Thanks in advance.

Pricing of a notary's services is not available to other notaries, Elizabeth. As a writer, I can tell you that every sentence in your NotRot comments section starts with "I." That's monotonous, boring and a turnoff, not an incentive for anyone to call you. In contrast, two of the three sentences above are varied in their beginning. It would be more effective and sound more professional if you rewrote your comments section.

Good luck.

Thanks HisHughness. I made the change-check it out. My price is $50 for total of 40 miles, then $1.25/mile after that. Edocs is $50 including copies. Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it.

Your price on the edocs is really low . . . most NSA's charge about $75 due to the cost of copies (toner, paper, wear and tear on a laser printer.)

Are you just trying to be competitive, or were you unaware of what the going rate of edocs is? Most of us will agree . . . they are a pain in the wazoo, and are worth more than what the UPS man would deliver at the front door!!

I'm just curious . . . I'm a newbie and am feeling things out as I go along here . . .

Best of luck,

ladyinred29 - were you ever paid $75 for edocs?

$75? I can tell you that most signing agents do NOT charge that high of a fee, and most signing services are not going to be willing to pay it. $25-$50 is much more in line with the going rate.

The actual cost of toner, paper, and wear and tear on a laser printer is in the $5-$10 range and I can't imagine any set of edocs justifying $65 in time costs. OK, I'm sure somebody has a nightmare edoc story, but for the most part they're pretty simple. It usually takes me less than 5 minutes of actual work (not counting the time it takes for the docs to print) to print a set of docs.

CA_Notary,
Being in California, is it ok to print all the docs in legal paper?

I print all docs on legal paper EXCEPT when instructed to do otherwise. Many times lenders will want the legals (anything that will be recorded, deeds, riders, etc.) to be printed on letter-sized. If this isn't specified in your instructions, then legal should be okay. If in doubt, call lender, title, etc.

Yeah, I always print on all legal paper and it hasn't been a problem.

Some lenders require both letter and legal (Ameriquest) but in my experience legal is acceptable for most others.

Where did you get your e-doc info Ladyinred???

I don't know where you came up with "most NSA's charging $75 for e-docs," but it's inaccurate. If that's the price you're marketing, you will probably find yourself sitting by the phone for a VERY long time. You need to read through the threads on e-doc pricing.

Re: Where did you get your e-doc info Ladyinred???

Maybe the intention was $75 which included the e-docs. $50 for the signing and $25 for the e-docs. Give Ladyinred a break; she just needs to clarify. If she is charging a full $75 for e-docs, we all know that's not going to last long and there won't be much work flowing Ladyinred's way.

I don't think so, Elizabeth, but if you'll stand a little closer to the light and turn slightly to your right...

Re: Where did you get your e-doc info Ladyinred???

NNA's website lists $75 as the recommended charge for e-docs...it didn't make sense when I first saw it either...and after hearing what other NSA were charging and what companies were willing to pay, it made me think that it was either a typo or a combined signing/doc fee.

Re: Where did you get your e-doc info Ladyinred???

Doesn't everyone charge more for edocs than the documents that show up at your front door via FedEx or UPS?? In EVERY case that I have seen, $75 is the going rate for printing and signing Edocs. It's a hassle . . . I don't think too many people would argue that fact. Incidentally, I don't have a "going rate" on Edocs or delivered docs. When they ask what I charge, I simply ask what they are accustomed to paying. It is usually more than the $50 (for delivered docs), and both I and the SS end up being pleased.

SO , , , the $75 includes the printing of both the original and borrowers copies, and the signing. Is that unfair?

Re: Where did you get your e-doc info Ladyinred???

$75 for an edoc signing (not in addition to the signing) is in line and possibly a bit low, depending on travel time. The confusion was that we misunderstood you and thought the $75 edoc fee was in addition to your base fee.

Re: Where did you get your e-doc info Ladyinred???

Aaaah, I see. But when a SS calls, they always quote a lump sum price. But I suppose if I were to quote THEM a price, the confusion might set in. $75 is for 25 miles. I really don't know how much to charge per mile over 25, because it has never come up. What is the average cost as far as that goes? Anybody?

Re: Where did you get your e-doc info Ladyinred???

I breakdown my fees to three general areas: (1) Loan document signing; (2) edoc fee; and (3) travel fee. That way, no matter what the package contains or how I get them, it's easy to figure the fee to charge. And, from that, I have a spreadsheet, listing each zip code that I service, with the travel charge, and loan signing fee for one loan, overnight and edocs and for two loans, overnight and edocs. That way I just quickly look it up and can quote the price to the calling party. Really helpful when I'm on the road and can't figure it out.

Whenever a company calls, I simply ask for the signing location zip code and look it up on my chart. If they agree, all well and good. If they don't, there's always room for negotiations, except at month end. Some title companies that I do business with is a flat fee. I just say yes, or no, to the appointment and bill my flat rate. It's nice that way. Scheduling takes maybe 2 minutes and I know what the fee will be and so does the title company.

You should stop where it ends with your business degree and add in info such as Bond/E&O.
